NYFW: Backstage at Creatures of the Wind Fall/Winter 2012

Having covered backstage beauty during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week before, you hear a lot of the same inspirations. My favorite is precisely what James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry, seems to have been inspired by for CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner ups, Creatures of the Wind. “The look is about ethereal, forest-wet skin,” said Boehmer. I love it when fashion folk talk about girls running through the forest, or falling asleep in said forest, or getting caught in a torrential downpour (yep, in the forest). Because what girl DOESN'T do this?

Continues Boehmer, “You can't use enough moisturizer - it's dewy and really radiant. The eye should be defined in its shape but worn-in with its effect. As if you can see the eyelid through it, which we get from the gloss.”

And so he used NARS' Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++, which is infused with naturally derived ingredients that hydrate and evens skin tone. On the eyes, he applied Cayenne, Bengali and Coconut Grove Single Eyeshadows as well as Kuala Lumpur Duo Eyeshadow. Eyes were defined with Mambo eyeliner pencil.

On the lips he used Rouge Tribal Larger Than Life® Lip Gloss (new for Spring 2012) and Triple X Lip Gloss.

Hairstylist Odile Gilbert gave hair a bit of texture with woven braids - a tough yet romantic feel. Twists and braids were created with Mousse Substantive, Lotion Densitive, and Couble Force Control Ultime all by Kérastase. For nails Ana-Maria, for Essie, applied two coats of Essie's Sew Psyched, topped off with one thin coat of Mint Candy Apple.
