blush

shirt, skirt, necklace and bangles: Forever 21; shoes: Mandee; watch: Juicy Couture; spiral bracelet: gift from a friend

Time to post two weeks old outfit photos! YAY!!

Last week was hellish (hence the radio silence) but I'm happy to start over. Start fresh. As the weather starts to dip a bit, I feel the same way about my wardrobe as I do the week. Is it possible to reinvent yourself simply by changing your wardrobe? I'm not sure how to properly transition from Summer to Fall but I feel like a maxi skirt is the way to go. When in doubt, don a maxi. Especially one in a beautiful nude/blush/whatever you call this color.

Or you can just add a piece of green hair extension that way nobody is looking at your clothes (kinda like I did in this post).

Review: Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Lashes Mascara

We all know of my love of Lancôme mascaras. When I think of luxury mascaras, I think of Hypnôse Drama. I've already introduced you to the brand's new Hypnôse Doll Lashes ($25) but today I'm going to provide you with an in depth review.

Doll Lashes was seven years in the making and gives a "doll-lash effect" with its cone shaped wand. The shape of the wand mixed with its triple patented I-conic brush delivers a smooth and very close application. I LOVE the wand since it allows me to be extremely close to the lash line and inner corners. Each lash is separated with no more than two strokes of the wand.
A major difference between Doll Lashes, regular Hypnôse and any other mascara in the market is the fan-like effect it makes on the outer edge of my lashes. I don't need to curl my lashes before use to get that wide-eyed look - which is perfect since I rarely have time for an extensive makeup routine.

What I'm left with are dark, flirty lashes with two strokes of a brush. Would I recommend it? HELL YEAH! If you want something that'll grab those pesky tiny lashes that can NEVER catch a break or are looking for something that will add that POW! to your lower lashes, get on this. Stat.
my doll avatar
While you're at it, Lancôme has this cute Facebook application live on its page that allows you to "dollify" (so not a word) yourself. Go ahead -- upload your photo, apply a snazzy lil' outfit and add a touch of makeup to your doll avatar.

The 1st Doll Lash Look by Lancôme: a volumized, full lash fringe for a wide-eye look. Lancôme’s most flirtatious mascara lifts, thickens and precisely defines even hard-to-reach corners and lower lashes beautifully. Visit the Lancome Facebook page to create your own Doll avatar.

MBFW Spring/Summer 2012: Backstage Beauty at Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff is no doubt one of my favorite accessories designers. When she transitioned over to a ready to wear line, I was (of course) excited. Minkoff truly understands her customer as the young gal about town who sometimes wants to carry her life OR simply have a night out with little to no hassles. Her clothing translates into bright, flirty yet office casual.

It was only appropriate that the nails (handled by Haven Spa Soho manicurists) conveyed the same pizazz of bright colors. A candy-striped look, nails were first coated in two layers of essie’s Below the Belt, a dazzlingly bright creamy white. Two coats of vertical pink stripes were then painted with a thin brush with essie’s Pink Parka, a shocking, Barbie-esque shade that made the nails pop to spectators, even sitting from afar the runway.

For the makeup, mark Celebrity Makeup Artist, Mai Quynh created a neutral eyes with bold lip. She started by prepping the model's skin with mark's For Goodness Face Moisturizer, followed by Primer for Perfection. Next she applied Min-A-Real Foundation to entire face using mark's Foundation Brush. Any and all blemishes as well as under eye circles were concealed with Conceal for Real. She dusted Matte-Nificent over entire face & neck using mark's Powder Brush. Brush Bronze Pro around hairline, down nose and in hollows of cheeks. On the lashes, she applied Lash All You Want Mascara on upper & lower lashes. Finally the look was topped off with Lipclick in Cha Cha & Coral Fixation mixed together and apply to lips using a Lip Brush

Jeanie Syfu for TRESemmé created hair inspired by Diane Keaton from the movie Manhattan. She began by prepping hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray, then divide the hair into four sections. Taking each section, tightly twisted the hair around an elastic to make 4 corkscrews. After fastening the corkcrews, hair was diffused with a blow dryer under high heat for 20 minutes. Once hair is cooled down, the elastics were released and hair was brished with a paddle brush for a gorgeous "permed" effect.

PS: Fun fact - Orbit (as in the yummy gum I am partially obsessed with) was an official sponsor of the Rebecca Minkoff spring 2012 show. Fresh breath as you tote your Morning After Clutch down SoHo? Yes please ;)

MBFW Spring/Summer 2012: Backstage Beauty at Tracy Reese

Tracy Reese's flirty and feminine collection, was complemented with hair and makeup that channeled a classic 40's Hollywood look.
Courtesy photo
For the makeup portion, Mally Roncal and her team started off with her Perfect Prep Poreless Primer to create a smooth base for the foundation. Next she used the Ultimate Performance Professional Foundation all over the skin for a semi matte finish. For a non-shimmery, healthy flush, Mally used her 24/7 Blush in Medium high on the apples of the cheek. Finally, she set the makeup with with her Poreless Face Defender applied all over the face.

On the eyes, Mally applied Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Liner in Midnight on the top and inner lash line to create the illusion of thicker lashes. Two coats of Mally’s Black Volumizing Mascara were applied to the top lashes. To emphasize strong yet natural brows, Mally used her Brow Boost.

To create a multi-dimensional shade, Mally used Lip Magnifier in Fierce on the top lip and Lipgloss in Be a Peach on the bottom

Hair was created and executed by celebrity hair stylist Jeanie Syfu for TRESemmé. I got the beauty breakdown from Jeannie and TRESemmé and, of course, had to share.
courtesy photos
Step 1: Apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse to damp hair and flip head upside down, rough blow drying hair with fingers until completely dry. (Stylist note: if hair is on the frizzier side, use a brush instead of fingers)

Step 2: Flip head upright and starting from the nape of the neck, take 2" sections and mist with TRESemmé Thermal Creating Curl Activator Spray

Step 3: Roll each section of hair with fingers and set with a wide flat iron on high heat, then clip into place and continue setting the hair to the top of the head

Step 4: Once hair is cooled, remove clips and lightly mist with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo and lightly brush through with a flat brush for an airy texture

Step 5: Take a section from ear to ear over the top of the head and then through to the center. On each side, using your hands, gather each section and over direct it upwards, rolling hair loosely above the eye level and fasten into place with hair pins. (Stylist note: to make the look more modern, try not to over style the rolls. Keep them a little loose and even)

Step 6: Pull the remaining length to one side of the head

MBFW Spring/Summer 2012: Backstage Beauty at Jeremy Laing

Lead makeup artist Hung Vanngo touching up a model
For the Jeremy Laing Spring 2012, makeup artist Hung Vanngo created the look for MAC Cosmetics, focusing on the eyes with a bright yellow shadow.

On the skin, Vanngo and the team applied Mineralized Charge Water Moisture Gel with a #190 brush. Using the pro-performance sponge, Vanngo and the team applied MAC's Face and Body Foundation. As the eyes were the focus, MAC Cosmetics brought out a special palette where the Mocha cream color base was used topped with Three RingYellow eyeshadow from MAC's Fall 2011 Fall Colour. A highlight was applied on the cheeks with fingers in Cakemix. The look was finished with Haute and Naughty mascara.
model: Johanna Fesselius
For the lips, Vanngo and the team used another special palette in Naval as well as lip conditioner tube applied with a finger.

The hair, is very simple yet sexy all the way straight using little to no product.

MBFW Spring/Summer 2012: Backstage Beauty at Erin Fetherston

model: Li Ming
Erin Fetherston's Spring 2012 collection was, of course, girlish but this season had a mod look and feel to it.
"The makeup was inspired by Mia Farrow at Truman Capote's Black and White Ball," makeup artist James Kaliardos for MAC Cosmetics told me. There were lots of false lashes, a charcoal eye. Think 60s meets 20s. In addition to the very deep eye, the artists used a coral, pale pink on the lips.
For the hair, Esther Langham (for Beauty.com) led a team of Alterna stylists to create a four different styles (a top knot, French twist and two ponytails - one to the side and the other to the back).

MBFW Spring/Summer 2012: Backstage Beauty at Band of Outsiders

Unlike most runway shows, Band of Outsiders always creates TWO makeup looks inspired by the clothing. I spoke to Dick Page, Shiseido's creative director, about both looks and what he used to create them. Peep the video as well as a detailed beauty breakdown below.
Girl Boy
courtesy of Shiseido
Page prepped each model’s skin by applying Shiseido The Skincare Multi-Energizing Cream. After moisturizing, Page applied a wash of foundation to conceal any blemishes or redness. For cheeks, he blended a combination of the Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Color Stick in Rouge Flush (S4) and Glistening Flush (S3) together on the inside of his forearm. Using a wedge sponge, he applied the cream blush mixture directly on the cheeks. Taking a blush brush, he blended the blush on the skin, focusing on the cheeks and bridge of the nose to create a “slightly sunburned” effect. No powder or concealer were used on the face.

On the eyes, Page applied the Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Cream Eye Liner in Black (#1) to the top lash line and in the lower water line of the inner eye. After the eyeliner application, Dick brushed the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara Full Definition to the top lashes only. Dick created a custom brow for each model by mixing together the Shiseido Makeup Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Patina (GR707) and Leather (BR306) and applying the combination to a clean mascara comb to finish the look.

Lastly, on the lips he applied Shiseido Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment to hydrate and condition the lip area. A wash of foundation was added to the lips and blotted with a damp base sponge to remove any natural color.

MBFW Spring/Summer '12: Backstage Beauty at Christain Siriano

A can't miss show for me during New York Fashion Week is definitely Christian Siriano. Watching him go from the super cute Project Runway contestant to a high profile designer has been amazing since you can see growth in his work. Backstage -- albeit tight -- was absolutely fun as I spoke to Aveda's Antoinette Beenders and Polly Osmond for MAC Cosmetics on the beauty look behind this seasons show.

According to Osmond the look was all about an "eccentric traveler." The girl is young and hippy-ish who does things that are kind of easy. (I'd love to be this girl!) With regards to the look, she applied it with her fingers - little to no brush usage - and sorts of "splodging things." She used a bright yellow color for the eyelids, adding in false lashes for a '60s effect. ON the cheeks was a rosy color making the face look a bit flushed. Lastly she topped off the look with M.A.C's "Innocence Beware," a beautiful nude color.
Antoinette Beenders, Aveda's Global Creative Director, told me that the look was very easy, beachy and 90s. She kicked off the look with Aveda's Volumizing Tonic applied to the roots, blow drying it in. Then she did a side part for a very chic, 60s look. Afterward she squeezed a powder (Aveda's Pure AbundanceTM Hair Potion), scrunching the hair as she did so. Finally, she curled the hair using a 1-inch curling wand, raking through the waves with her hands and misted the look with BrilliantTM Spray-On Shine.

NYFW Style Diary: Cocktails and Couture Party

Dress: Zara; Cardigan: Alexander Wang; Shoes: ???; Bag: Zara; Bracelets: Forever 21; Headphones: Urban Ears

Last weekend, I tinkered on over to the third annual Cocktails and Couture fashion week party, hosted by my good friend Lianne Farbes. As my first official NYFW party of the season, I took it as my chance to wear my newly acquired (and unbelievable cute) Zara dress and Alexander Wang cardigan (sample sale FTW!)

Spending the night sipping on dangerously fruity pink drinks and joking with good friends, I couldn't imagine spending my evening after hauling (okay, that's dramatic) backstage all day.

Stay tuned for more (in-depth) Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week updates. Don't forget to visit the MissWYA Facebook page where I've been uploading a shit ton of  pictures from backstage and events!

MBFW Spring/Summer '12: Backstage Beauty at Peter Som

Backstage at the Peter Som Spring/Summer 2012 show I spoke to Aura Friedman, Wella Professionals Color Ambassador, on the inspiration and color for the hair this season. Not surprisingly the dip dyed hair trend seems to be going nowhere as the Som girl will be rocking locks of rose gold, peach, apricot and salmon. According to Aura, "the tones are strong and different but feminine." This is the girl who woke up and simply tossed her hair to the side and tucked hair behind head. "She's done but not overdone."

The look is a side part with the weft of the colored extensions peeking out, sort of like "spot highlighting."

Aura described this look as "dip dye but elegant and more wearable for the everyday girl," and can work on any skin tone.

Keying the show in the makeup department is the creative genius and extremely dapper, Tom Pecheux. Pecheux said the look was somewhat 60s-inspired with dewy skin and an intense violet "banana" shaped eye look. This season, Som and Pecheux wanted to play with color and bring some freshness to the runway since the models were so young. The clothing collection is full of bright, eye-popping looks so a fun look was definitely needed.

Pecheux calls the look "very Twiggy and powerful." It was about making the girl pretty, cool and young.

All makeup by MAC Cosmetics unless otherwise noted. Young Venus Extra Dimension eyeshadow was dusted on the lids with a 242 brush. Fig 1. and India Ink eyeshadows were used to make a hard, rounded crease with a 214 brush. Than he applied Pro Lash mascara and Rich Purple choreographic pencil lined under the eye. On the cheeks, Pecheux contoured with Sculpt & Shape powder. Peaches and Fleur Power was softly dusted onto the apples of the cheek with a 129 brush (one of the BEST brushes ever in my opinion).

One the lips, Pecheux and the team applied Innocence Beware lipstick, a creamy color, for a natural glossy stain.
