As the weather warms up, I find myself with a MAJOR dilemma. I really have like NO spring/summer clothes. Up until now my life consisted of jeans and t-shirts. I have the occasional dress pants/slacks and what i call my "interview" clothes ('cuz, duh, I only wear them to interviews). Other than that, I have about 2 dresses (sad but true) and like 2 cocktail dresses (that look more appropriate for the sixteen year old in me (...that's cuz I had them since I was about 15/16 years old...)
Pathetic...I know
I'm trying to change up my style a bit-not for no boy or because "everybody's doing it"- but because I feel that as I get older I might as well look the part. This hit home when, coming from work, I sat on the train (pissed!) and looked around me. I was surrounded by a bunch of kids- I don't know if they were junior high or high school but either way they annoyed the hell out of me. As I sat looking at these kids-who really need some kind of after school program...was I the only one who got involved at school?- I realized that I look like one of them. What made it worst was when I got off the train to transfer to the bus (which is also the bus the kids got on- I live in a popular section of Brooklyn), the driver said,
"You kids need to do something after school, you know". Normally I would have nodded my head in agreement but I stood there, flabbergasted, because I realized- he was talking to
me!!!! THE NERVE!!
Needless to say, I told him a piece of my mind and let him KNOW that I ain't no
8th grader!
This got me thinking...
when am I ever going to give up this look? I'm not saying I want to be all dressed up all the time but seriously...I can't blend in with these kids. No wonder I can't get a decent guy- they think I'm 16!
So...as the weather warms up I've decided that my style will have to go from jeans and graphic tee to
WHAM! **I'm trying to figure out what WHAM! is while on a budget**
To begin my
Hot style in Hot weather:
The Maxi Dress...
I noticed this trend on the Spring/Summer '08 collection and always thought how I'd look with it. And pair it off with all the brights, I figure- it's go time:
I know black is a bit basic and that colours are "in" for the warmer weather but really sometimes simple is better. These are great for just lounging around with hopes of going out to dinner later on that night with your girls. I love the tiny halter strings and the embellishment on the bust on the
ingwa;
melero dress (left). And strapless is great because it gives off that carefree vibe and even though this
YAYA AFLALO dress (right) is black the gold detail going down the middle of the dress gives it that extra kick. Pair these with some gold bangles and gladiator flats and you got yourself an easy day to night dress.
Brown will always be a fave colour for me. I can do no wrong in a lovely brown outfit. But the wild patterns on these dresses (
dvf vintage dress is on the left and the
BCBG is on the right).
But of all the dresses I've seen these three are my absolute favorite. The colours are vivid but not in your face BOLD. Add simple sandals and a stack of bracelets and you got yourself a date outfit. These are carefree yet sexy in a subdued way (he best way possible in my opinion for a girl to instantly look sexy). I love the
Rachel Pally dress (right) because of the little U-ring detail and ruching along the bust. Being flat chested this will come in handy...lol. The
Juicy Couture (left) dress is pretty because of the red floral pattern and since I'm dark skin this color will pop against my skin tone. Now if only I had a date this summer (but you never know...summer has just begun!!)
On the more affordable end, these two lovely creations from
H&M will do just fine (sine H&M doesn't have an online store, I did that little "Dressing Room" thingie, thus explaining the SIMS looking character):
Now the thing is trying to find this at an actual H&M...in your size.
wish me luck guys!
