I'm surpirsed I haven't been fired yet...

no seriously! I'm really surprised I have a job still. I'm always
running late. My last job tolerated my lateness (well...they needed me.
I was the fastest employee working there and all of the customers liked
me...except for that old man who yelled at me that one time...)

Today I'm not late but if I had left my house later I'd be late...

I know...that didn't make ANY sense. lemme explain...

I start work at 5pm today but I figure let me not be lazy and get my
behind to the city and apply for a new job before I go to my current one
(haha). So I left at 2:30pm..I WALKED to the train station (yes...in
this heat) 'cuz the buses were playin games. I went to Duane Reade to
buy a bottle of water only to realize...I ain't have my metrocard
ANYWAY! so I wouldn't have been able to get ON the train. So...I walked
back

...in this heat.

Thank God I ain't wear no makeup (ok I am wearing my LORAC blush-in
Crimson- and lipgloss...but those are my two MUST WEAR NO MATTER WHAT
THE WEATHER beauty products).

So...an hour and 3(!) allergy attacks later (I live near a park...grass
and plants EVERYWHERE!!!) I am on the bus (there was NOOO way I was
going to walk again...)

It is now 3:38pm and to go to the city and have to rush back to Brooklyn
sounds like a hassle.

And I'm lazy.

And tired....

Away..

Ok me being the gracious goddess that I am [...=)...] I will be away
'till Saturday night. I am going to enlighten the youth and show them
what a wonderful (gag me) college they just enrolled to. In other words
we're going to glam the campus up for a week, lie to the poor kids and
say that my college is fun, and make them think that my school will be
the best 4 years of their life.

Even though ½ of them will transfer by October.

Stay lovely dolls!

WELCOME TO THE FIRST OFFICIAL "PUCKER UP WEDNESDAY" on MissWhoever-You-Are!!!

So I know it's supposed to be on Wednesday's and technically it's Thursday (it's 2:55am) but I haven't gone to sleep yet so its still Wednesday night to me!

For this Feature I will be revie
wing a certain lip gloss weighing the Pros and Cons and basically just rambling!

First up...

What:
CoverGirl AmazeMint Lip Gloss- CoverGirl has teamed up with Crest and added a peppermint flavor to their lip gloss for high shine and boost of freshness for a brighter smile!

There are 13 shades in this line and 3 shades offer blue undertones for a whiter smile (Plum Crazy, Un-wined, and Toast-ed are the three).

Back Story: I had finally got my $5 rewards card from Duane Reade when I noticed a stunning picture of Rihanna. She was wearing this really bright shade of pink lipgloss and underneath were the AmazeMint lipglosses. Curious I read the tiny print in the advert and saw "Rihanna is wearing Tickled Pink" (ok those weren't the exact words but either way it was Tickled Pink). So I saw the price ($5.93) and grabbed Tickled Pink, headed to the register, and handed over my $1...(I love reward cards).

Verdict: The gloss was smooth and glided on my lips...no sticky-ness here!...just like the original Wet Slick Gloss but what caught me by surprise was the cool peppermint flavor. It was sooo refreshing in an odd way. It reminds me of C.O. Bigelow's Mentha Lips Shine. The color however was super sheer and less than spectacular. If you're looking for mega watt pickness..Tickled Pink alone is not good. I had to layer it with my Wet N Wild in 511B (i swear that thing is a godsend...)

Lying advert aside I give this an Overall Rating of A+

Under the Sea...

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it's better

Down where it's wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin'
Full time to floatin'
Under the sea

About a month ago, I was browsing the Macy's on 34th Street when I was stopped dead in my tracks for this beauty.
It's Betsey Johnson's Octopus Ring ($75). It's so gorgeous up close this picture does not do it any justice. The whole "theme" of the display at Macy's was an aquatic underwater experience and I was also entranced by this stunning beauty...the Clamshell Ring ($110)
I have a thing for rings so forgive the countless rings I'm about to show. But seriously it's like everywhere I go I'm seeing this aquatic theme. So much so that I actually went back for the ring (..me...pay $75 for a ring...but I had a coupon for Macy's) but alas, I left empty handed because my baby was gone.

More underwater gems...

Also from Betsey Johnson (could you tell I'm obsessed with her...)

Tropical Fish Ring ($60)
large Anchor Rope Necklace ($77)

David Yurman Turtle Ring ($550)
If I had money, I'd buy it..yeah I said it. I'd pay $550 for a turtle. I love that the top of the ring is like the body of a turtle rather than the whole ring being a turtle (like the Betsey Johnson rings above are just the animal with a ring attached to it).

Pomellato starfish ring (price upon request: Pomellato, NYC, (212) 879-2118)This ring is set in in white gold, moonstruck, and topaz. Isn't it gorgeous??? I could imagine wearing this to some fancy dinner or gala - somewhere where my picture would be taken. It'd be a crime to own this and not wear it. Hell, I'd where it everyday.

De Grisogono Starfish bracelet ( Price: Available on request at de Grisogono, NYC, (212) 439-4220)This starfish bracelet with sapphires and diamonds is so odd yet I love it. I don't quite know how one would wear it but I'd definitely own it!

Stephen Webster Seahorse Brooch ($15,000)
It has diamonds and rubies in it! Can it get anymore glamorous? I told myself I'll start wearing brooches more often but I always felt them to be a little bit too old lady. Maybe this would change my mind though ;-) But then again who has $15,000(!) to spend on a brooch?!?

Last but definitely not least...

Giuseppe Zanotti jeweled fish sandal ($850)
You had to see this coming. I saved this for last simply because I got to see this beauty up close and personal and let me tell you...FIERCE!!!!!! I saw them a while back on the foot of a woman so beautiful it was as if glamour just oozed outta her skin (don't you just hate people like that). I know I've always told myself that I'd never spend a crazy amount of money on shoes except for some Louboutins but...Giuseppe has caught my eye. It's times like this when I wish I had money to just spend like crazy. I've seen them in countless websites and magazines but pictures don't do them any justice

Am I the only one seeing this all around? Am I wrong for wanting those shoes? Does anybody want to buy me those shoes...=)

Model of the Moment

Ok so when I had started this blog, one of my first "real" posts was about my favorite topic:

Models

I have this strange obsession with the modeling industry particularly because I not-so-secretly want to be a model. If you know me you know that I seriously want to be a model. Not just any model but like a serious working, walk the runways of New York-London-Milan-Paris model. Standing at a mere 5'9" and my slimness (sorry but the word skinny sounds sick and I am QUITE healthy thank you very much) it seems like a perfect fit. But, alas, I live in New York City where EVERYONE is an aspiring model. So the market is saturated- I am a face among millions.

And I wear braces.

So I started this blog as a means to dish on "fashion, beauty, and any other random things I can come up with..." with hopes that one day as I'm being interviewed by Vogue or Harper's I can say, "Yeah I was so obsessed with fashion I started a blog [laughs]"

Is it sad that I have that line all prepared? =)

Anyways, like I said in a previous post, Italian Vogue is releasing their "Black is Beautiful" issue as their July 2008 issue. Controversial...a bit. Am I happy...a bit. I'd be happier if it were AMERICAN Vogue doing this and not just for one month...

What's my point? Well, I found my Model of the Moment. After only 2 months...TWO MONTHS...of modeling, this girl has landed in the pages of US Vogue, Italian Vogue, AND walked in the Dior's Resort Show.

Oh and did I mention she did this within TWO MONTHS of modeling?!?!?! Am I jealous of her...HECK YEAH!

Who is she: Arlenis Sosa Peña

Hailing from the Dominican Republic (HOLLA!!! This part makes me like her. Why? Because a) that's my neighbor country- my parents are Haitian and b) my grandmother is Dominican so that makes me like ¼ Dominican..so HOLLAAA!!!) Arlenis was "discovered" while shopping with her family in a city in DR. She's 5'11" and is represented by Marilyn Modeling Agency.

After just one look at her Oscar de la Renta decided he just HAD to dress her for the Met Costume Ball and seated her at his table.

OH.

MY.

GOD.

So as my quest to get discovered while shopping-which is really odd as I am ALWAYS shopping so I should have gotten discovered by now- I'll sit and admire Arlenis. She's giving us Dominicans [hey- its in my blood ok =)...] a good look. And who knows...I might just go knocking on the doors of FORD, Elite, and, hell why not...Marilyn.

Makeup Haul...

Have you ever had one of those days when you feel like you've felt like you've spent soooo much money but when you look at the receipts...you haven't.

I love those days 'cuz I have so much new stuff yet I still have money in my pocket (at least that's the dream...I never end up having money).

Well yesterday I went kinda sorta crazy. But first...

I had my first little mishap at Sephora...SEPHORA!! I went to pick up my little sample (umm grab the newest issue of ELLE and you'll know what I'm talking about). And the convo went as such:
Cashier: Would you like to know how much points you have on your Beauty Insider card?
Me: Sure (smile)
Cashier: 21 points
Me: 21?!?!?! Where'd all my points go?
Cashier: [blink]
Me: When I went to the Times Square one the guy told me I was 30 points shy of 100! What happened to the other, like, 50 points?!?!
Cashier: Well all it says here is 21. But you can pick out one of the samples we're giving to the Beauty Insiders
Me: ok...but where'd my other points go?
Cashier: I don't know hun...you can call the number on the back of the card
Me: thanks [take samples, cue exit]

So apparently I lost like 40 a.k.a $40 worth of purchases. It's not a total lost because I guess the cashier saw my confusion/disappointment/near frustration and gave me the "deluxe" sample anyway. But still...I spent, -er worked, hard for those points...

Anywhoo...back on to my lovely purchases/ samples received:

Cannabis Rose Lotion and Perfume Spray by Fresh
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder
Black Radiance Perfect Tone Loose Powder
Kinerase Extreme Lift Face
....a boat load of Mario Badescu skin care products

reviews coming soon!!

WTF?!?!?

As a typing this on my Sidekick, I sit here on the L train...frustrated. I had to be at work at 8am (on a Sunday, I know...gotta love retail!) and lets see:
-I woke up at 7:19am
-made it to the train at 7:45am, started doing my makeup when I realized...this train isn't moving.

Well now its moving 15 MINUTES LATER!!! It is now 8am and I am now moving on the train...lovely. Oh and my managers just sent me a text...fun!

Vogue Wigs

So I've been dying to cut my hair really short like Rihanna's newest haircut. I've been wanting a change..like desperately. But I don't think I'm ready to go as severe as that. I mean...my hair is a part of me. In a way it's sort of what I got. That and my lips. Sounds absurd...I know.

But what's a girl to do when she's desperate for a change without the commitment. Just like that time I wanted to change my hair color but couldn't imagine having anything but black hair. I got a rinse...a semi permanent hair color that washes out over time (like 3 weeks or whatever). But when I want to chop off my hair but still want the hair attached to my head...pull a Jessica Simpson and wear extensions!

Or a wig like my mom sometimes does.

So I was kind of happy when this website landed on my computer screen. Vogue Wigs is a site that sells all sorts wigs, weaves, etc. They have synthetic wigs, human hair, African American (created by legendary supermodel Beverly Johnson), extensions, hairpieces- the list goes on. They carry products in every price range, from more affordable synthetic clip-in extensions to luxurious human hair volumizers.

Looks from Beverly Johnson's collection.
Tell me that doesn't look real and I'll call you a liar..=)

Not only does Beverly Johnson sell her wig collection here, so does former (or is she still current...) bombshell Raquel Welch. Now don' act like you could have Raquel Welch hair..shoot. Raquel Welch Wigs are made of human hair and she even has clip-in hair extensions and addition hairpieces. Many of the wigs from her collection are made with Memory Cap ® technology which, apparently, is super comfortable because its made with ultra sheer stretch cap material instead of the traditional stretch lace other wig companies are made with.

My favorites from her line
Aren't these just fab looking! The look on the left is sort of what I currently want and the look on the right is something I wish I had everyday...

They also have monofilament wigs which look sooooo real (and are great for people who has lost their hair due to medical/ cancer treatments). Made from human hair (or most are) these look real and feel so soft. My faves:

The look on the left is by Revlon (yes cosmetics giant...Revlon) and is trés Linda Evangelista and the look on the right is just so easy and relaxing.
Is it obvious that I'm feenin' for a short do'

Speaking about Revlon, the Revlon wigs are just so stylish and chic they kinda make me want to pull out my credit card and go crazy! I've never worn a wig before and the only time I wore extensions was for my high school prom to give my hair volume (I had a crazy fly curl game goin' on!)

I love this hairpiece because it's so elegant and I'm convincing myself that I'm going to start going places to actually have elegant hairstyles.

Not only do they care extensions, clip ons, and wigs- they even offer care products (so your piece don't end up looking tattered, tacky, or torn up!). By the way all of the looks I showed have varying colors so you don't have to be a blond to get them. They have for sooo many different hair colors, its amazing!

I may not be a wig gal (that's my moms thing) I do like the extensions and clip ons. They make it easy for me to transform my look whenever I'm in the mood with instant clip-in extensions or clip-on hairpieces.

Beauty Tips

Ok as if you didn't know these already, I figured with summer here and all...why not remind ya'll. See what a good friend I am =)

Exercise! Radiant skin is one reward of regular exercise. A brisk 20-minute walk every day can do wonders for your skin’s health.

Watch what you eat. Fast food is notoriously bad for your skin and your health. Fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, will keep your skin clear and glowing.

Minimize your time in the sun. A tan may look nice for a few days, but it causes damage that will last a lifetime in the form of premature aging. And forget about tanning beds — they are every bit as hurtful to your skin. If you want to add color safely, try RAWMinerals Mineral Glow.

Use SPF 15 or higher every day. Sunscreen isn’t just for the beach: Your skin is exposed for hours every day during the course of normal activity. Even when the sky is completely overcast, the sun’s rays can penetrate 70% to 80%. And the sun is just as harmful when your going from your car to the grocery store as when you’re lounging by the pool. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen in combination with products such as RAWMInerals Active Veil, which has an SPF 20 sun-protection rating.

Hands off! Throughout the day, you touch keyboards, steering wheels, door knobs and elevator buttons. Touching your face helps spread oils, dirt and germs, increasing your likelihood of developing acne. Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face.

Easy on the eyes. The skin around your eyes is thin and fragile. Tugging at it can break down vital elastin fibers, making it more prone to wrinkles, bags and sagging.

Quench your skin’s thirst. Hydrated skin looks plump, firm and healthy. Rule of thumb: Drink one 8 oz. glass of water every hour you’re awake.

Learn to read product labels. Nothing does more damage than using harmful products on your skin. Avoid ingredients like talc and alcohol that tend to age skin by drying it out.

Shopping Malls...

My mom is always shopping. Literally everyday she comes home with some bag. Let it be clothes, shoes, perfume, or some new little accessory- she gets them all. I'd love to know where she gets this money from!

But the other day she came home all excited and I got a little excited.

Is it bad that both mother and daughter are both chronic shoppers?

Anyways, I got excited when I saw her hair. My mom's hair is natural- no perm, no relaxer, no weave-nothing. So when she came home with her hair nice and straight, I was happy (YAYYY no more twisting and braiding for me!!) When I asked her how/when/where did this happen she showed me this...

Apparently she was at the mall (figures...) when one of those ladies at the little stands stopped her and asked to "try out" (in other words...sell) this flat iron. Well my mom loved it so much she bought it...for $149.

This is where the smile faded...I'm sorry for $149 she could have bought the T3 Mini Flat Iron (and still have $30). At least I KNOW what that iron can do. I've never heard of this Amika flat iron...never. I'm the type of gal that likes to do her research before I spend a lot of money.

Suspicious, I thoroughly inspected this product.

Also came with...
I was still a little suspect of this no name product so I went to my trusty source...the internet. Still I hardly found any info. Only the website (www.love amika.com) and that this flat iron is only sold in little stands at some local malls. This above all made me feel like my mom got duped. I was half expecting the flat iron to break apart or simply not work within the next week.

So I waited two weeks...and went back to check on it.
.
.
.
.
Still there in one piece.

Whats the best way to prove something...experimentation!

I washed and dried my hair. And now was the moment of truth. After two hours, I must say I am impressed.

My bad...

This flat iron is AAAAMMMAAAZZZIINNGG!!! No other flat iron I've ever used has gotten my hair so straight so fast (I have a lot of hair and I am not that great at doing my hair so two hours is a short time for me). The spray it comes with is wonderful (smells good too!). It's a 2 in 1 styling and volumizing spray and uses natural holding agents derived from rice (RICE!!!). This is safe and prevents any unhealthy buildups.

My hair fell straight without any crunchy noises or nothing. I fell in love. I went to work with a smile on my face.

Not to mention the compliments I got! My hair stayed straight for a week- it probably would've been longer if I didn't fall asleep without wrapping my hair those two nights...oops!

Just goes to show that not all the best beauty products are found at Sephora. I was proven wrong...and my mom was right.

damn...

Vogue Noir???

This has been an on going issue in the fashion community...the lack of color.

Last October, I had the opportunity to attend a discussion held by legendary Bethann Hardison (former model and model agent) about the absence of color in fashion. It was one of the most memorable events I had ever attended (not to mention that Miss Iman was there and I stood thisclose to her). There were protests and letters and even CFDA prez herself Diane von Furstenberg had heard our cries.

But come the Fall shows came and went and the runways were as bland as ever.

Heck the June/July issue of French Vogue features the beautiful Noémie Lenoir on the cover (well one of two covers).
However she is featured alongside Laetitia Casta in an editorial called "French Touch" (shot by Mario Testino). Want to hear the fun part? Lenoir gets only one photo compared to Casta's five and even that one is just a mirror image of one of Casta's shots

Well, it seems now that someone is taking action. The July issue of Vogue Italia is titled "Black is Beautiful" (ain't it)... I've heard rumours these past couple of months but it is now been confirmed that it IS true. The July issue will feature black models, almost exclusively, shot by the photographer Steven Meisel.

You see it here first, the actual cover featuring Jourdan Dunn (surprised they didn't recycle and put Chanel Iman on the cover...love her but she's not the only black model out there).

A very risqué move for Italian Vogue. "According to magazines, black models don't sell." So I'm somewhat shocked at this move. Now I only hope that there are still ADVERTISEMENTS in this mag and that they wouldn't pull out. Asked why she [Vogue Italia Editor in Chief Franca Sozzani] had decided to do this, she said: "Because nobody is using black girls. I see so many beautiful girls and they were complaining that they are not used enough."

THANK YOU!!!!!

Also risky as this IS Italy. Now I may not have been to Italy before and my interaction is only with students and fellow classmates I've met in high school and now in college, but I don't think this idea will be welcomed with open arms abroad. Hell in high school, the crush/ love of my life found out that I liked and told me that I was pretty but his mom would "kill him" if he ever brought a black girl home.

That was 2 years ago dolls...And if that's what Italian Americans are thinking I could only imagine what the natives thought.

But what did Sozzani say in response to that: "Maybe in our country it is not the best idea. But I don't care. I think it is not my problem if they don't like it - it's their problem."

Now on to our cover Ms. Dunn. I've seen her face before but she really caught my attention when I saw her in the Prada show this past Fashion Week. There hasn't been a black model on the Prada catwalk since 1997 (and that was Ms. Campbell). 17 year old Jourdan lives in Greenford, West London was "discovered" by agency Storm while trying on sunglasses in the Hammersmith Primark. She is the current face of Gap. This 5ft 10in teenager was picked by Kate Moss to launch her Christmas Topshop collection last year and has appeared on New York catwalks and the pages of US Vogue. ***some girls have on all the luck...I try on sunglasses ALL THE TIME and I have yet to be "discovered"...lol***
Hmm...did anyone even realize that Prada hasn't had a black girl grace their catwalk in, what, NINE YEARS!!!???!?!?

Anyways. Here are a few pictures that managed to creep its way on the internet.

While this is all fine and dandy now, I want to see if the August issue will feature black models as well as their white counterparts or is this just for show...and I'll get even more excited when my own COUNTRY (that's you Anna Wintour) starts putting faces who look like me in your $3.99 mag...

but for now..I'm taking what I can get.

I can't speak a lick of Italian but you best believe I will be purchasing this issue (and it's expensive price tag..damn rate of conversion). The Vogue Italia July 2008 issue hits newsstands next week.

What do we think? Is this a step in the right direction? Do we care? Do you think this is a trend to stay or just a passing fad?

Product Review: Peter Thomas Roth Chamomile Cleansing Lotion

So it's been a month and I'm sure I fell in love. Like, seriously. I never thought that it could ever happen so fast. I'm so happy! Who is so lucky to have caught my eye you ask?

Peter Thomas Roth's Chamomile Cleansing Lotion.

I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that my face was breaking out (which is terribly confusing as I cut down on the junk food-sort of- and kept up on my skin care regimen). So when I saw this cleanser in my gift bag from a couple of days ago, I figured, why not?

And I never looked back.

My normal skin care routine consisted of just my Clean&Clear acne cleanser and follow up with the oil free moisturizing lotion but I don't know if my skin is just rejecting this cleanser or what. But for the past week my skin has cleared up and I'm noticing less and less breakouts. Now I know it's a bit premature to be claiming that this thing is a gift from God but...this thing is a gift from God.

The Chamomile Cleansing Lotion is a natural herbal cleansing lotion with soothing chamomile. It feels super silky and is so gentle (doesn't feel harsh or the scent isn't overpowering). The best part is that it doesn't dry out my skin at all.

This gets an A+++++

Rebates Rebates Rebates...

Ok so how bummed was I when I learned that I wouldn't be getting that damn stimulus check that the IRS has been handing over to everyone but me. I work hard AND pay taxes but because my madre (dear old mom...always finding ways to get me down) claimed me as a dependent (yes I'm still young...20 1/2 to be exact)...I ain't getting NO MONEY!!

But anyways...on the topic of getting cash back, I found this website More Rebates.com where you get cash back (like 25%) for shopping at various websites. It's like Lucky Rewards except there are MORE online shops to choose from!

Well, to test things out I signed up. And earned $6 just for signing up...HOW COOL WAS THAT!!
Eat that IRS!!!!!

While its not quite $300 you get money for shopping which I support ANYDAY! lol Hell, if I'm getting paid for shopping at Macy's, Lancome, and other places I normally shop anyway, it's even better when someone pays me for it!

You guys could sign up here.
