SAG Awards 2011 Beauty: Sarah Hyland

I think "Modern Family's" Sarah Hyland is BEYOND adorable. When I saw her on the red carpet, I thought she looked quite appropriate for her age. Her orange strapless gown was from Max Mara's Elegante collection, jewels by Me & Ro jewelry topped of with shoes and clutch by Stuart Weitzman.

Her makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Allan Avendano who gave the young star a bronze smoky eye, a pop of color on the cheeks and glossy lips.

SAG Awards 2011 Beauty: Lea Michele

While I'm kinda/sorta already over award season (and, uhm, it's only January), I can't help but watch the red carpet to see what the starlets are wearing. Perhaps it's because I lead a slightly dull life, I love seeing people get glammed up and strutting their stuff. More importantly, I want to see what makeup the gals are wearing as it can serve as inspiration.

As an avid Gleek, I always look forward to seeing Lea Michele's red carpet look. This year she didn't disappoint at the 2011 SAG Awards in a blush crepe de chine caviar bead embroidered gown by Oscar de la Renta, Sergio Rossi shoes, Tiffany jewels, and a Daniel Swarovski bag. Celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis glammed up the “Glee’s” starlet and I have the details to spill.

"This Bianca Jagger-inspired look was sexy yet effortless, with the focus on Lea's smoky, purple-berry eyes."

All makeup by Lancôme, unless otherwise noted.

Face:
Inglessis used Teint Miracle Lit-from-Within Makeup along with Effacernes Waterproof Concealer (a personal fave!) and Teint Miracle Instant Retouch Pen. On her cheeks, Inglessis dusted YSL Blush Variation in Coral Sand.

Eyes:
On the eyes, she used a combination of Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Mauve Chérie and Ombre Magnétique in Ultra Lavande. Eyes were lined with Le Stylo Waterproof EyeLiner in Prune. Lastly Inglessis applied Hypnôse Custom Volume Mascara in
Black

Lips:
Color Design Lipcolor in Pale Lip

Jourdan Dunn, Burberry Spring 2011

This just in: Jourdan Dunn is the face of Burberry's Spring 2011 campaign.

Dunn, who gave birth to her first child in late 2009, joins fellow model Cara Delevigne in the ad campaign.

From Modelinia...
For quite some time, it looked like Cara Delevigne would be the sole model showing off the Spring 2011 collection from Burberry, which would rank a major accomplishment for a newer face. But at long last, Jourdan Dunn finally made her rumored appearance in the campaign! She stars on the same pebbled beach as Cara, showing off an envious leather jacket and accessories from the brand. Mario Testino snapped both Cara and Jourdan alongside their male costars - embodying the young British sentiments of the Burberry brand.

Maybe now Burberry will add a few dark shades in their makeup line, eh?

Nourish Me: Leonor Greyl Lait Luminescence

As someone who is making healthy hair a priority in 2011, I was tickled by the launch of a new product in the Leonor Greyl family. I'm a big fan of their bamboo shampoo (it's a gift from God Himself. trust) so I'm interested in trying out whatever they promise to make my hair better.

Lait Luminescence ($43) is the brand's new luxurious hair milk, which promises to silken and detangle hair after washing, leaving it looking shiny and protecting it at the same time. Dry, coarse or curly hair may especially find this bad boy interesting as it moisturizes hair without weighing it down (even offering protection from the sun - something everyone can benefit from). This leave-in treatment nourishes and helps in styling the most difficult hair.

Lait Luminescence is available on www.leonorgreyl.com

Spotted: Rebecca Minkoff at the Knicks Game

As an avid lover of all things Rebecca Minkoff, I like to spread the gospel of her bags know matter when or where. When an email landed in my inbox stating that Michelle Trachtenberg - a.k.a Georgina on Gossip Girl - was spotted rocking a rather fierce Minkoff bag, I felt it was my civic duty to share.
Sidenote: Ramona Singer (from Real Housewives of New York) isdatyou?

How fierce!

The starlet was spotted touching up her gloss mid-game while cheering on the New York Knicks (or her boo) during their match against the Wizards the other night. In her possession was a feline printed Morning After Clutch by Rebecca Minkoff. The Morning After Clutch is versatile with its convertible/ removable strap and can be carried as a hands free crossbody handbag or a statement clutch.

The MAC is available multiple fabrics, prints and colors (I have a beautiful purple one that I purchased during Lucky Shops -- SCORE!). Visit www.rebeccaminkoff.com to see them all.

Tech Chic: Seashell Karim Rashid Netbook

With fashion week a little over 20 days away, I'm starting to mentally and physically prep myself for what's to come- early call times, heavy duty tweeting and blog posts galore. While I enjoy my current laptop, it's simply too heavy for me to tote around town with all of my gadgets.

Luckily for me, the folks over at Microsoft Windows have loaned me a super gorge pink Eee PC 1008P (Seashell Karim Rashid Collection) netbook. As a PC lover (and advocate!) I love Windows too much to give it up. This lightweight netbook allows for easy use no matter where you are. Designed by Karim Rashid, the netbook features Digi-Waves - rippling lines across the top portion of the netbook - and is available in hot pink or chocolate brown.

As it runs on Windows 7, I was also given the Windows Anytime Upgrade which allows me to upgrade the current version of Windows on my netbook/ laptop. I look forward to using this little guy a whole lot more in the future and teaching you a bit more about what exactly Windows has to offer.

Do you have any PC issues? Want to learn how to optimize your Windows experience? Shoot me an email or leave a comment below!

Banish Split Ends With Nexxus ProMend

As a chica with relaxed hair, I have my fair share of hair worries (dry, weak, thin). One problem that women - chemically treated hair or not - have is split ends. The ever annoying ragged ends that plague women everywhere, split ends are a top sign of damage. No matter how hard (or how much you spend) to maintain healthy hair, breakage occurs quickly with daily styling in between salon visits.

Thankfully, Nexxus® Salon Hair Care has introduced their new ProMend line, a line determined to mend and help repair split ends in one use. The creme de la creme, according to me, is the ProMend Split End Biding Overnight Crème.

In a word - FAB!!

This little guy works overnight to bind split ends back together. I use it once a week and have fallen in love! When I comb my hair out in the morning, it isn't falling all over the place and my ends don't look wispy and is majorly soft. I'm normally afraid of leave in anything once my hair is dry because I despise wet/ greasy look black hair gets if you apply too many products in it, however the overnight creme is lightweight and silky -- so not greasy.

The ProMend line starts at $9 and is currently available online

iPad apps For Sanity

I'm a firm believer that a sound state of mind leads to positive well being -- mentally and physically. Whenever I'm feeling stressed out, worn out or worrying about the little (or major) things in life, I feel sick down to my very core (queasy tummy, nausea - you name it).

Canyon Ranch, a leader in the wellness industry, aims to help folks like me with their new 360 Well- Being iPad app. Categorized by Mind, Body and Spirit, one can learn to how to keep a Zen state-of-mind no matter where they are. The iPad app has a collection of 21 fitness and food videos, 20 meditations and 3 audio meditations from Canyon Ranch experts -- among many other features.

For those who seek fitness without the hassle of a gym (or stares from other gym members -- eek!), the brand has also released their new Everyday Fitness iPad app ($3.99). Perfect for the beginner, there are yoga, Pilates and posture tips (somthing I desperately need) and exercises for the beginner.

The Canyon Ranch 360 Well- Being app ($3.99) is available for download at the iTunes Store.

Miracle Worker: Dermablend Quick-Fix Concealer

With a sleep cycle as effed up as mine, it's no surprise that I have these massive dark circles south of my pupils. No matter what I do, they never go away and I've resorted to stalking every Sephora/ drugstore/ online retailer for something that can make me look somewhat human.
I sent an S.O.S and the gods (the PR gods that is) came calling.

Dermablend’s Quick Fix Concealer SPF 30 is a full coverage concealer that can be used to cover up many of your skin imperfections. When I heard Dermablend provided up to 12 hours of wear, I was nothing but skeptical. I find it hard to believe that one product can last that long but I decided to stop my worrying and give it a go.

Strong enough to hide tattoos the folks at Dermablend are on to something.
This concealer has a smooth and blendable formula leaves skin feeling soft. It hides just enough under my eyes without looking like I slathered makeup on. The best part is a little bit goes a long way when using it.

I also use it under the eye and up towards the bridge of the nose for a "bright-eyed" effect. This stick is light enough to let my skin breathe, yet heavy enough to erase the dark circles -- if only temporarily.

Dermablend Quick-Fix Concealer, $22, available at dermablend.com

Clearly You've Been Taking a Shower Wrong All These Years...

Hard to imagine that as a grown adult, that's when I learned how to properly take a shower, eh? Before you go dissin' my mama (I dare you), hear me out. I've always been a loofah and body wash kinda gal. How can one go wrong when you have a piece of mesh scratching away on your skin, removing any and all impurities with your epidermis right?

(Actually: Loofahs are not mesh but "dried fibrous part of the fruit of a plant of the genus Luffa". Mesh just sounded more like English).

Well there's a better alternative to removing every layer of your skin all for the sake of cleanliness.
I KNOW! This is yet another post in which I extol the virtues of the Clarisonic instead this time this one's for your BODY. GENIUS!

The Clarisonic® PLUS with Body Brush is everything you need and MORE.

I thought discovering the Mia last year was the closest thing I'll get to heaven on earth but I was dead wrong. With its new power settings and spot therapy brush head, deep cleansing is not only available for your face but for your rough elbows, knees and everything in betweeen. All by switching out the facial brush head with the new Body Brush. The PLUS then does all the work for you by automatically shifting to the “spot” mode.

It's the MacGyver of skincare! For serious.

There are three speeds available for facial cleansing - which, at the moment, we don't care about because those dry spots on your knees and ashy elbows are begging for attention. The larger body brush not only calls upon the angels in heaven to remove dirt but gently massages your body wash of choice into your skin. The result is clean skin so soft it rivals a baby's ass. Take that Johnson & Johnson.

The Clarisonic PLUS ($225) is available exclusively at Sephora and Clarisonic.com.

Emma Stone at the 68th Annual Golden Globes

With a sleek, peachy Calvin Klein number "Easy A" star and Golden Globe nominee, Emma Stone, took the red carpet by storm. I couldn't help but stare at Stone's blond locks and wonder if I rather her as a blonde or a fiery redhead. (I'm leaning towards redhead more!) Funnily enough -- she's a NATURAL BLONDE. go figure.

Stone went back to her roots for her role in the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie, alongside my future baby daddy Andrew Garfield.
While I was iffy about the look altogether (is it me or was she a bit too tan??) her hair did speak wonders to me. The look grew on me throughout the four-hour telecast. There is something slightly Hitchcock heroine about it. TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist, Mara Roszak, created a classically pretty style that consisted of an elegant bun perfect for evening.

Get the look:
* Step 1: Apply TRESemmé Fresh Start No Frizz Créme to damp hair
* Step 2: Blow dry using a round brush to sweep hair away from face
* Step 3: To give volume and height, tease crown and spray TRESemmé 24 Hour Root Boost Spray at the root
* Step 4: Smooth hair while keeping height at the crown and secure into a mid-height ponytail
* Step 5: Divide ponytail in half and twist the two halves around each other
* Step 6: Hold the ends firmly and wrap the twisted hair into a bun, pinning as you go
* Step 7: To set the style, finish with TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray

After staring at her photos online, I've come to the conclusion that Stone had - by far - the best updo of the evening. Challenge me. I dare you.

"Black Swan" Star, Mila Kunis, at the 68th Annual Golden Globes

For the 68th Annual Golden Globes, makeup artist Tracey Levy created a look that was "fresh and effortless, with a touch of Audrey Hepburn." With an asymmetrical neckline and twisted fabric, Kunis' emerald green Vera Wang gown screamed elegance as she walked the red carpet. Her gown was paired with YSL heels, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Judith Leiber clutch.

Kunis' signature smokey/ heavily lined eyes took a break for the evening as Levy used coral hues on the starlet for the evening. Using Lancome makeup, Levy applied Teint Miracle Lit From Within foundation and Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose. Her eyes were swept with Lancome's soon to be released Color Design Pan Palette in Coral Crush and Teal Fury. Her mile long lashes were graced with a bit of Hypnose Drama mascara in Excessive Black. On her lips, Levy applied L’Absolu Nu lipstick in Coral Ribbon (out in March) for a beautiful, peachy pout.
Her hair was styled by TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist, Mara Roszak, who was inspired by Kunis' green Vera Wang number and created a "sophisticated and feminine up-do." This modern French twist is a little Hollywood glam and Audrey Hepburn rolled into one.

To get the look, Roszak sprayed TRESemmé Naturals Finishing Spray on damp hair and rough blow dried to add body. Roszak sectioned off the top half of her hair and applied TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boost Spray to give hair lift at the crown. The top section was then blow dried and pin curled from front to back to add wave and texture. The bottom half was pulled back tightly and gathered as if you are creating a ponytail. Starting at the nape of the neck, the hair was twisted upward in a crisscross pattern at the crease. The pin curls were undone and teased. Next, the top section was brushed backward and tucked underneath French twist. To set hair and provide a lasting hold, the stylist sprayed TRESemmé's TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray. Finally, to soften the look, the hair was gently loosened around hairline and ears.

Nicki Minaj for V Magazine

Love her or hate her, hip hop's reigning queen - Nicki Minaj - is here to stay. She's partnered up with MAC Cosmetics to create her very own signature shade of lipstick, Pink 4 Friday. Her debut album, Pink Friday, has been certified platinum just five weeks after its release and is currently the #1 hip hop album according to Billboard.com.

Now Minaj is heating up 2011 - already - by landing the cover of V Magazine, one of fashion's edgier publications.

The photo spread, in which Minaj dons Versace and tribal prints, is not her usual getup. While she still dons her trademark pink lips, the ass baring, sexed up Minaj is leaning towards the high fashion world. The editorial, called "The Rise and Rise of Nicki Minaj", talks about her road to success.

“I’m an entertainer — I like to make people laugh,” she says. “Some will hate it and some will love it, but all will remember it. And that’s what I want: to be remembered. Even if I’m saying something hard-core or controversial, there’s always a touch of humor, and if you don’t like it, it means I’m stirring things up inside of you.” At the same time, there’s a lot going on inside the artist’s own head. “I just always want to do ‘me,’ but ‘me’ changes every day. I would crumple up and die if I had to wake up and be the same person every day. I don’t silence those voices anymore. I just let them speak.”

Check out a few more photos of the piece below:

One Year Later

This time last year, I was at my internship when I received a BBM from a good friend "Haiti had an earthquake. Call your fam." Thinking nothing of it I called my mom, told her what I heard and went about working on my projects. By the time I hopped off the L train and in my house, the seriousness of the situation smacked me right in the face as my mom sat in her room with a look of extreme sadness. Clutching the phone in her hand - she must have called at least 20 times with no response - my mom, the fearless leader of the pack, cried.

She cried for her mom who was going blind and her dad who was wheelchair bound. She cried for her baby brother who can lift her spirits with million jokes and for her little nephew who rivals Einstein in intelligence. Most importantly, she cried because the place she called home was in ruins. And there was nothing she can do to help. No matter how many years she spends in the US, she considers Haiti her home and where she wants to be.

The earthquake of January 12, 2010, killed about 230,000 people and left thousands more badly injured. The country's infrastructure was already fragile and crumbled instantly. The date is uttered in Haiti as September 11th in America. When I visited last summer, everyone remembered the day as if it were yesterday. I listened to my littlest cousin, Bradley, explain how scared school kids were at the thought of never seeing their parents.
Taken on my trip to Haiti
A full year later, little progress has been made. Cholera haunts the natives and political tension is rising, causing chaos and riots throughout the streets. While aid is far in the distance, it hasn't stopped people from celebrating. Life goes on. My cousins showed the marketplace where girls bought bits of costume jewelry and beauty products. I was taken to the park at night where countless young people sat around eating and dancing to kompa (the country's music).

There were smiles but beneath them lie constant fear. The Haitian people have questions but getting answers is a task in its own right. When will aid come? How will cholera be controlled? When will life turn back to normal? I have no idea and I can't help but be sad today. I want the best for my family - and the country in general - but like everyone else, I'll just have to wait it out and pray.

L'Oreal's "Gene"-ius Approach to Skincare

If you know me at all you'll know there are several things I hold sacred - a damn good hot pink lipstick, anything Victoria Beckham and Nicole Richie related, the power of chocolate and my rather intense skincare regimen.

It [my skincare obsession] started back in the day as I watched my older brother agonize over his skin and slather Noxzema all over his face (it was the 90s after all). While he mainly wanted clear skin for the ladies, I quickly learned that one's skin greatly affected their self esteem. I wanted clear, beautiful skin - at a time where I had a grand total of zero pimple - so I stuck my fingers in his gigantic tub of magic and prayed he never caught me.

Fast forward eleven or so years and you have a 23- year old who is still obsessed with keeping her skin as beautiful as possible, except this time there's no need to sneak around.

Just before Christmas, I received a package in the mail containing a sample of L'Oreal's new Youth Code Serum Intense. I'd heard rumblings on the interwebs so I was pretty excited. L'Oréal scientists claim to have unlocked the code of skin's youth by discovering a specific set of genes that are responsible for skin's natural power of regeneration.
Youth Code Serum Intense ($25) is a highly concentrated serum - to be used twice daily - that hydrates and makes skin smoother, luminous and rested.

With GenActiv TECHNOLOGY™ and 10 years of research, L’Oréal Paris' Youth Code Skincare Collection promises to energize and repair gene expression, enhance the skin’s capacity for recovery faster after aggressions and unveil younger-acting skin. The line is formulated with Biolysat, a bacteria that works to repair genes, and Adenosine - a molecule that stimulates DNA and protein syntesis while producing collagen.

Having been using the serum for three weeks, I've become smitten. I've noticed that my skin is much smoother and radiant. During the winter, my skin tends to get very dull and I rely heavily on bronzer to make me look human. I've been able to ease up on said bronzer (and makeup in general) as my skin appears to be a lot healthier. I've been using this in conjunction with my Biore Steam Activating cleanser (or Clearasil DailyClear Daily Face Wash at night) and Cetaphil moisturizer. This has been giving me the best results thus far as I am not breaking out as much and can walk out of my house sans foundation.

If you're in your 20s, I HIGHLY recommend this product as it's great for preventative skincare. If you're already experiencing wrinkles, I can't say for sure how it would work at reducing wrinkles but you might want to give it a try anyway. The serum is great for anyone looking to brighten up tired, dull looking skin.

MissWYA Rating: A+

The L'Oreal Youth Code skincare line is available drugstores nationwide. If you want to learn more about the line, check out L'Oreal's Facebook Page as they've got a slew of info available.
