Sunday was this blog’s fifth birthday. FIVE YEARS! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been committed to something this long. While I can get truly sappy about all of the opportunities this site has afforded me, I’d rather keep it brief and say, Thank You.
Thanks to you (readers and sometimes commenters) I’ve been able to talk about lipstick, fashionweek, and hair without judgement. To show my appreciation, I’m giving two lucky MissWYA readers the chance to win one of my favorite hair care lines introduced to me earlier this year - Motions’ Naturally Youcollection. This isn’t just for a shampoo or conditioner — this is the FULL THANG BABY!
You’ve heard me wax poetic of the masque and trust me when I say the full collection detangles, moisturizes and caresses your strands - no matter if you’re natural or relaxed. Formulated with ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil and coconut oil your hair is left hydrated and healthy. Everyone’s hair could use a bit of TLC and I want to set you on the right path
To enter: simply leave a comment below or shoot me an email at [email protected]. The contest ends at 11:59pm ET on Friday 7/13. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. readers only.
Good luck! Disclosure: contest is sponsored. Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.
It’s certainly no secret that I *love* fashion week (#NYFW). The clothing, backstage hair and makeup, runway shows, it’s an AMAZING time to see the newest trends while doing some sick street style spotting. Editors, models, and bloggers are running wild across the city and I can’t wait to capture it all
One thing to look forward to are all of the launches, specifically Rock & Republic for Kohl’s. For a brief moment in my life, I was obsessed (!) with Rock & Republic and now the line is going to be launching only at Kohl’s. I can’t wait to see how the line has evolved. To kick it off, Kohl’s and Rock & Republic are giving you the chance to attend fashion week. To celebrate the launch, they’ll be hosting a fashion show (I’ll be there!) and are giving you (yes, YOU!) the chance to be there within the throngs of the fashion set. Not only will they fly you to NYC, but you’ll get some spending money, clothing and get to attend the show. Sounds like a good time to me. Enter here.
Good luck! If you win, don’t forget the little people
Disclosure: Kohl’s provided compensation to me as an incentive to blog about the Rock & Republic launch event. The opinions expressed herein are those of this author, and they have not been reviewed or approved by Kohl’s in advance.
As much as I love BRIGHT ASS nail colors during the spring and summer, I am OBSESSED with the dark but not black colors of autumn beauty. Perhaps it’s all my years of watching shows like The City and The Rachel Zoe Project where girls sport the “I work in fashion and have serious nails” nail look but once September/ October rolls around I have to wear the black but so not black nail.
“This Fall, manicures are emerging in waves of rich jewel tones, earthy and worn shades, and comfortable colors - as cozy as a boyfriend’s t-shirt,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director, Jan Arnold.
During the Fall/Winter 2011 fashion shows, I went backstage and interviewed some of the best in beauty, including the creative geniuses behind Creative Nail Design (CND). For fall, runway manicures unite lavish eggplant purple and deep blues with decadent gilded gold. For your own opulent, jewel-toned nailcolor, CND’s limited edition The Look: Fall 2011 ($29) box set is perf! The set includes Midnight Sapphire (a deep cobalt blue crème), Dark Amethyst (velvet aubergine crème) and Sheer 24K Sparkle (gold lamé effect ). These jewel tones were seen at Sachin & Babi, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jen Kao and Monique Lhuillier.

All of these polishes apply beautifully and I’m pretty much smitten with the way CND formulates their nail lacquers. Not too thick but not watery thin, they apply pretty smoothly and evenly without any air bubbles. Also, one coat is more than enough with the darker colors. As I’m a creature of habit, I apply two for an uber dark look.
The Look: Fall 2011 box set is available while supplies last at select salons and professional beauty supply stores. Wanna learn more? Check out cnd.com.
