The Wait is (Almost) Over

Gals, I can't tell you how out of whack my life has been since Gossip Girl went on a hiatus. Mondays are a blur and I don't know how I've been functioning.

Lie: Bravo's "Kell on Earth" and "RuPaul's Drage Race" have ben keeping me busy.

Anyway, the promo is out for GG and in two weeks we get to see Nate and Serena hook up (finally), more of Blair's dresses (please), Chuck's mom(?) and Jenny becomes a druggie (sorta).

March 8th...get fired up

NYFW 2010: Backstage at Zero + Maria Cornejo

The inspiration behind the makeup at Zero + Maria Cornejo was described as "transparent and easy.” The makeup was done by Dick Page, Artistic Director for Shiseido cosmetics.

Dick applied Shiseido Makeup Dual Balancing Foundation where needed to neutralize red areas and spots. Then, Dick used a brush to blend the Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Color Sticks in Bronze Flush (S1), Rouge Flush (S4) and Rosy Flush (S5) to match each model’s skin tone. He applied the rosy color around the cheek area and down to the jaw line.

On the eyes Page started off by blending the Shiseido Makeup Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in Brown (BR602) with the Shiseido Hydro Powder Eyeshadow in Glistening Sand (H9) on the back of his hand to create a mid-tone brown. Next, Dick used a fluff brush to apply the color combination to the eyelids in two areas. Page first worked the color along the inner eyelid, blending from the bridge of the nose and up towards the brow. He then applied the color along the outer eyelid blending from the lash line out. The inner and outer blending did not meet at the center of the eyelid. Page also blended the color combination along the bottom lash line.

Then, he took a soft brush and diffused the color on the eyes. Next up, the darkest color from the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Strata (BR307)- which is available in September 2010- was used to sketch over the brown color on the eyelids to create more intensity. Lastly, Dick applied the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Color in Soft Beam Gold (BE206) all over the eyelids and under the eye to create a halo of color and highlight.

On the lips, Dick blotted Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte Lipstick in Whisper (RD722) on the lips with his finger. Before strutting their stuff on the catwalk, Dick sprayed each model’s face with a spritz of water for a “glowy” finish.

The hair was created by Thomas Dunkin for Sebastian Professional. Of the look Thomas says, “the hair has a soft, washed-and-left look that’s a little rough and a little windblown and complements the tailoring in the clothes.”

NYFW Fall 2010: Backstage at Narciso Rodriguez and Shiseido

What a ride it's been for Senor Rodriguez, eh? From the First Lady donning his frocks to Julianna Margulies' stunning gowns at the Golden Globes and the SAGs, Rodriguez has been on the minds of women everywhere. This season, he sent down a sharp collection of black, white and burnt orange coats, dresses and pants that seem perfect for Fall.
Model: Aminata Niaria

To complement the collection, makeup artist and Shiseido Artistic Director, Dick Page, made the eyebrows the statement of the look making them bold and dark.

On the eyes, Page swirled a mix of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in High Beam White (WT905) and Soft Beam Gold (BE206) on the eyes. He called the brows the “most important detail of the look.” To fulfill this, he mixed Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black (BK901) with a prototype of a white cream color from the Shiseido labs to create a dark-grey shade. Next, Dick sketched the dark-grey cream into the eyebrows with a sharp edged makeup brush. To finish, Dick used a mascara wand to groom the brows.

The face consisted of clean and beautiful skin. To achieve this, Page applied Shiseido Makeup Dual Balancing Foundation where needed to neutralize red areas and spots. Next, Shiseido Makeup Translucent Loose Powder was applied to the entire face to create a matte finish. To top it all off, he mixed the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in High Beam White (WT905) and Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and blended the colors onto the cheekbone and under the eyes.

Dick applied Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte Lipstick in Whisper (RD722) to the entire lip with his finger.

NYFW Fall 2010: Backstage at Michael Kors

When you think of American designers, it's hard not to think of Michael Kors. The New York fashion scene is heralded as classic and contemporary sportswear (and, no, I don't mean sweatpants and sweatshirts!) This has become the All American look- ready for work and play.

So it comes to no big surprise to learn that the inspiration behind the makeup for Michael Kors was “All American”. The eyes look can be described as “distinct luxurious, but not too heavy.” Dick Page, Shiseido's Artistic Director, created the makeup look this season. On the eyes, he blended together the Accentuating Color Sticks in Bronze Flush (S1) and Glistening Flush (S3) to create a warm, bronzy shade; he then applied the color all over the eyelids. Dick then brushed the Luminizing Satin Face Color in High Beam Gold (BE206) over the eyelids to create a “halo” of color. Next, Dick used a fluff brush to apply the dark-bronze shade from the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Opera (GD804)* along the upper lash line and up through the crease, following the natural eye shape. A large fluff brush was then used to diffuse the color.

To line the eyes, Dick took the charcoal shade from Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Fire (OR302)* and slightly dampened the edge of the shadow for intensity. Using a small liner brush, Dick used the damp charcoal color to line two-thirds of the upper lash line and the full bottom lash line. Then, Dick used the dark-bronze shade from the Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Opera (GD804)* to blend over the lash lines to soften and diffuse the color. For the upper lashes, Dick gently curled the lashes with the Shiseido Makeup Eyelash Curler and then applied a coat of the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara Defining Volume in Black (BK901)*.*The Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio and the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara Defining Volume will be available September 2010.

Model: Joan Smalls.
For the face, Page wanted it to look like “warm with a flush of bright color” so he applied a wash of Shiseido Makeup Dual Balancing Foundation over the face and along the jaw line. Next he applied a mix of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in High Beam White (WT905) and Soft Beam Gold (BE206) along the cheekbones and slightly under the eye area to create a highlight. Next, Dick applied a combination of Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors on the apples of the cheeks, depending on each model’s skin tone. Shades used: Tea Rose (RS302), Orchid (RD401), Petal (RD103), Carnation (PK304) and Shell (GD809).

On the lips, he used Shiseido's Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Caramel (BR333) with a soft fluff brush and then diffused the color. The Shiseido Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick will be available September 2010.

NYFW 2010: Backstage at Christian Siriano with Aveda

The Christian Siriano show was a clusterfuck to get into, but all of the waiting proved to be worth it as I saw one of my fave models, Sessilee Lopez, strut her stuff down the catwalk like no one's business. The hair on the models looked beyond ferosh and I found out it was all because of Aveda.
““Christian and I were inspired by Veronica Lake and 1960’s vintage Parisian glamour. The swept-up, wavy look echoes the romantic silhouettes and movement in this season’s collection.” — Antoinette Beenders.

Two snaps for Aveda!! Their lead stylist, Antoinette Beenders, created a 1960’s Parisian glamour “wave” updo using Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.

Here's what Beenders and her team did to get the look:
1. Prep hair with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for light, workable hold.

2. Working from bottom to top, curl hair in one-inch pieces with a medium barrel curling iron. Loop each curled piece around your finger and pin against the head to set the curl. Allow curls to cool, and then remove clips. Gently brush hair out.

3. Separate a top section of hair—from the hairline to the crown—and pin it away to separate. Backcomb the remainder of hair and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to create ultra-volume. Brush backcombed hair through.

4. Gather the left side of hair and pull tightly to the back of the head. Pin in place vertically, up the center line of the head, with bobby pins. Smooth hair against the head with fingers and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to minimize flyaways.

5. Gather the right side of hair and pull tightly to the back of the head. Wrap hair inwards around your fingers to create a tornado-like twist. Pin in place and spray with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray for ultra-strong hold.

6. Remove pins from the remaining front section of hair and backcomb to create volume. Spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray. Comb hair away from the face and pin to the top of the twist, creating wave-like volume at the crown of the head. Set the look with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.

Gone in 60 Seconds...

With all the buzz that Lancôme's latest Pout-à-Porter lipstick has been getting, it's no surprise to hear that the lipstick sold out quicker than ever. Chris & Tell was created specifically for the Chris Benz Spring 2010 presentation held last September and since it's been released, it's become one of the fastest selling lipsticks in the Pout-à-Porter designer lipstick series.

Yours truly attempted to bid on it on eBay and someone beat me out (I was playing cheap and refused to pay higher than $48...the winner was willing to shell out $78!!) I've since snagged said lippie and am in love love LOVE! If you are a brown girl, DO NOT FEAR THIS BABY! It's a gorge peachy color that can be worn a little sheer to compliment our skintone.

MY TIP:: If you layer Lancôme's Color Fever Lip Gloss in Solaire over it, you get AHH-MAZING results!

You can go on eBay and Buy It Now for 100 bucks (check it out here OR you can hightail on over to the Saks Fifth Avenue Lancôme counter in Manhattan TOMORROW where Chris himself will be in attendance signing lippies and sharing the inspiration.

Saks is one of the only locations that have some lipsticks left and that's primarily because they ordered a batch JUST FOR THIS EVENT! If you're one of the lucky few who snagged a Chris and Tell lippie, he'll be signing those too!

Thursday, Feb. 18th
Saks Fifth Avenue Lancôme counter
Fifth Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets
5 to 7 p.m.

Well ladies, you pick... stalk eBay or stalk the designer -er I mean visit him at Saks.

NYFW Fall 2010: Backstage at Victoria Beckham Fall/Winter 2010

We already know of my insane obsession with everything that is Victoria Beckham. I bought two copies of her Glamour issue (out now) and pretty much stalk her life. So when I learned that Lancome did the makeup at her show this past weekend, giddy is just one word to describe how I felt. Plus I heard that the show took place in Carrie's place from Sex and the City movie.

According to my peeps at Lancome, Victoria wanted minimal makeup, but with maximum impact. The result was nude lips, silvery eyes and shimmery skin.

The buzz all over Twitter during the Victoria Beckham show was that she had a Dick Tracy inspired theme and to go along with that makeup artist, Francelle, created a modern take on 1930's Hollywood glamour.

She began by sweeping Lancome's Color Design Eyeshadow in Optic on the entire lid to the brow bone and added Color Design Eyeshadow in Crème Lustré to the lower lid. For a metallic, finish she used Ombre Magnetique (new for fall)in Silver. For the lashes, she used Hypnôse Drama Mascara on the top lashes.

The skin was dusted with Ageless Minérale Powder in Translucent for a luminous complexion and Blush Subtil in Miel Glace was applied lightly to the cheekbones for an added touch of color. For the perfect nude lip, Francelle prepped the lips with concealer and applied L'Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Rich Cashmere. Placing the concealer first ensures that the color will last longer.

The nails were short and groomed with just clear nail polish and the hair, by Didier Malige, was pulled back in messy version of a French twist.

NYFW Fall 2010: Backstage at Thakoon

The inspiration behind Thakoon's Fall/Winter 2010 look was Chopinot & Gaultier’s Le Défilé. "I was inspired by the costumes used in this show and wanted to create a collection that reflected that same era but without the goth element," said designer Thakoon Panichgul.

Diane Kendal, lead NARS makeup artist, said “The look is fresh, beautiful, luminous and quite confident,” The brow was strong and the eyes were highlighted to show depth and boldness.

On the face, Kendal used NARS' new Douceur Blush (comes out in Fall 2010). If you want to do the look now without waiting for Douceur, try Lovejoy or Madly Blush.

On the eyes, she used Coconut Grove Single Eyeshadow (new) which is similar to NARS' Bali single eyeshadow and Portobello duo eyeshadow. On the brow bone, she used Tzarine Duo eyeshadow (new- try the Orgasm Illuminator). For the lips, she used another new fall product called Tashkent Pure Matte Lipstick which can be substitued with Belle de Jour Velvet Matte Lip Pencil for a similar effect

NYFW Fall/Winter 2010: Backstage at Mackage

Fashion Week started off with a bang as I entered backstage and instantly fell in love with the hair and makeup backstage at Mackage. Tippi Shorter, Avon Global Stylist Advisor and stylist who has worked with some mega celebs such as Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Beyonce, told me that the inspiration was based on the “the walk of shame” with the hair loosely pulled back into a messy (but not sloppy) ponytail and a bit greased.

Tippi working with New York Fashion Week newbie model, Chrishell

To prep the hair, Tippi used Avon’s Advanced Techniques Smoothing Serum ($5.00) to give it a shiny/oily appearance that remained polished. She finished the look with Advanced Techniques Hair Spray (also by Avon, $4.00). The makeup was simple yet beautiful with a dark black lid that looks like it had been glossed over.

NYFW Fall 2010: Backstage at Rebecca Minkoff

Backstage at the Rebecca Minkoff presentation, the girls looked youthful and beautiful, all complimenting the feminine looks of the collection.

The hair was keyed by Laurent Dufourg who used Prive Finishing Texture Spray, Prive Finishing Hair Spray and Prive Shining Weightless Amplifier on all of the models. The inspiration behind the look was the effortless French woman that we all love to hate because she's beautiful and sexy without even trying (umm...Carine Roitfeld??). There were two looks for the show one being a simple, tall bun and the other was the look you would get when you pull that bun out- full on sexy wavy hair.

Makeup artist Sarah Lucero (LOVE her!) created a refreshingly beautiful face using all Stila cosmetics. The inspiration, she said, was Brigitte Bardot and very 60s. She prepped the models with a hydrating primer from Stila and applied Stila's Illuminating Liquid foundation to give the girls that glowy skin. On the eyes, she used Stila's Dune eye shadow as a base with Java eye shadow layered over it. Using Stila's brown smudge pot, Lucero created a sexy French cat eye and lined the waterline with Stila's Kajal Eye liner in Topaz. The eyes were finished with Stila's Convertible Mascara. The cheeks were lightly flushed with Stila's Peony Convertible Cheek Color, a sheer cherry color. Lastly, the lips were filled with Stila Cherry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain.

NYFW Fall 2010: Vivienne Tam

For Fall 2010, Vivienne Tam took inspiration from the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac. Each item in the 20 piece collection was meant to represent a zodiac sign- some as literal as showcasing origami appliqués of the animals- with the designer herself donning the "dragon" inspired dress.

Each model sported a sleek, high ponytail, minimal (almost no) makeup and bright red lips. The collection was feminine and tailored, nothing new as Tam is known for her crisp and clean lines. There were ruffles, sequins and fur (faux, of course) on a olor palette of reds, greys, and champagnes.
Intricate ruffle detailing at Vivienne Tam

Tam's zodiac inspired collection coincided perfectly with the Chinese New Year, which Tam told me she did not plan and "just happened". I got to speak to the designer on the collection and up coming projects so be sure to stay tuned to hear what she has to say (and some very BIG news).

NYFW Fall 2010: Wayne Presentation

Tinsley Mortimer and designer, Wayne Lee

Yesterday, I ventured off south of the Tents to Chelsea to go see the Wayne presentation being held in an über trendy art gallery. Unfamiliar with the designer, my curiosity was peaked because it is often during fashion week that designers bring their A-game and show us what they're really about.

Among other writers, hipsters and Tinsley Mortimer I watched as 32 looks walked past to the booming bass of the DJ. The collection was described as "a visual distortion of nomadic life" and each piece seems perfect whether worn alone or layered as presented. The color palette consisted of black, grey and off white along with a few bursts of army green, saffron, army green and metallic silver. The designer, Wayne Lee, used this collection her introduction to the use of furs- both faux and real- to create that juxtaposition between fake and real.

One trend I'm curious to see if it will catch on is the one legged leggings some of the models sported (one side cut like shorts and the other a full leg). I won't be surprised if I see this in Nylon magazine at all! Overall, a wearable collection that takes everyday casual to different lengths.
