Lanvin x H&M pt. 1

Saturday, November 20, 2010

To say that I love me some Lanvin is an understatement. Other than finding him ridiculously adorable, Alber Elbaz seems to know a woman’s form pretty damn good for a man. He really respects women and therefore everything he puts out is genuinely beautiful and flattering.

Strong and powerful people are sexy. -Elbaz

When I heard about Lanvin’s collaboration with H&M I was conflicted- thrilled yet fearful that it would not live up to the brand’s legacy of finely crafted womenswear. Have you ever bought something at H&M? Most pieces honestly only lasts a season or two and then it’s time to discard and purchase a new one. I will say, however, H&M is no Forever 21. I still wear my super skinny black pants and black cardigan I bought freshman year of college.

And so, at 5:30am, I woke up and made my way to the Upper East Side (a land I find quite foreign in NYC). I arrived at 7:45am to see a line that was 100 people deep.

front of the line

In order to successfully shop a designer collaboration at H&M, one must be strategic. First, only six stores were carrying the line in NYC- I automatically eliminated Herald Square (two stores) and SoHo because of the inevitable crowd. I headed all the way uptown because NY’ers are lazy and tend to forget/avoid the UES like it’s the plague.

Since I knew there would be less of a crowd, I took a chance and arrived a few minutes before store opening. As much as I love Lanvin, I value my health and the cold weather does not make good camping weather.

the H&M staff was nice enough to provide coffee and croissants!

After all was said and done, I received my neon bracelet with a shopping time of 11:20am. I had three hours to waste (Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Sephora- but no shopping because I Had to save all my money for the EPIC shopping that was about to ensue.

At 10:45, I headed back to the store and patiently waited until they called out the shoppers in my group. Unfortunately the yellow, one shoulder, ruffled dress I had my eye on was all sold out. And the pink. The black was available but upon closer inspection, the edges were frayed and the fabric seemed a bit too cheap for my liking. At $200, I personally believe that I could have gotten better at Bloomies. While I love the collaboration, I’m not wasting my hard earned money on a) a dress that wouldn’t last long and b) a dress EVERYONE and their mother was going to own.

crappy cell phone pics FTW!

I did snag a tee, skirt, two totes and a million lipsticks. They had a limit of two items per clothing (i.e: you can only buy two of the yellow dresses) and they even tried to stop me from buying two lippies (they were running super low) but once I laid the “puppy dog eyes” the cashier let me purchase as many as I wanted.

Pics of my haulage to come. For now I have to eat and go back to sleep. I’m starting to see double and my stomach is yelling something angry.

PS: Forgive me if this post makes no sense. After my nap, I’ll edit it and make it coherent. And make sure it’s written in English.

Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.Share/Bookmark

Get the Look: Ali Larter at Cirque du Soleil in Santa Monica

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Anytime Cirque du Soleil is mentioned, I instantly think of Ben and Pete watching Cirque du Soleil while tripping on ‘shrooms [seriously one of the best scenes in a movie]. While nobody watched the show high (hopefully) they did hit the red carpet at the opening of Cirque du Soleil’s “Kooza” in Santa Monica.

mark Celebrity Makeup Artist Mai Quynh spills the beans on how she created Ali Larter’s stunning look.Check it out…

Face
“For Ali’s face, I started with mark For Goodness Face Moisturizer for an overall moisturizing base. I then applied mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Honey using a foundation brush and mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Natural underneath her eyes. For a flawless finish, I used mark Good Riddance Hook Up Concealer in Light/Medium around her nose as a concealer and mark Matte-nificent Powder in Natural Buff using the mark Powder Brush to set her concealer. To create a natural glow, I swept mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Chica on the apples of her cheeks.”

Eyes
“To really enhance Ali’s gorgeous eyes, I mixed mark I-mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Minx and Corset by layering them from her lash line to her crease, and blending them into her crease using the mark Angled Contour Eyeshadow Brush. I also used the mark Eyeliner Brush to smudge the shadows underneath her lower lash line finishing the look with two coats of mark Make It Big Mascara in Raven.”

Lips
“For her lips, I layered mark Dew Drenched Moisturlicious Lip Color in Dew followed by mark Pro Gloss Hook Up Plumping Lip Gloss in Swell for extra shine.”

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

With Fall coming down quicker than I can spell my name, here’s a quick and easy way to take care of your skin. As the seasons change it’s muy importante that you change up your skincare routine as well. What worked during the lazy days of summer just might not work with the cool air and sharp winds.

One of the most important things to keep in mind as the temperature drops is to hydrate your skin. There is less oil and sweat lying on the skin’s surface- and factor in the winds your skin is just BEGGING to get dry. And let’s face it, dry skin is no bueno for ANY beauty girl.

St. Ives Renewing Collagen Elastin Advanced Body Moisturizer combines essential collagen and elastin, key proteins that enhance skin to look younger and healthier. And at $4.99 for 18 fl oz. pump, this is beyond a bargain!

Get the Look: Emma Roberts at the “Who What Wear” Book Launch

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Last week Emma Roberts looked fresh and radiant at the “Who What Wear” Book launch on September 2nd. Her makeup was done by Kerry Malouf for Maybelline New York.

Kerry wanted to keep Emma’s look clean and “pretty in pink” to complement her bubbly, fresh personality. Kerry focused the look on her dewy skin with minimal makeup and added a little bit of natural, pink lip.

Face: Kerry applied a light dusting of Maybelline New York Dream Liquid Mousse to keep Emma looking young and fresh. For a rosy glow, Kerry finished the look with Maybelline New York Expert Wear Blush in Pinch O Pink, which was applied to the apple of the cheeks and swept up to the hairline.

Eyes: For a subtle yet eye-catching look, Kerry swept a light wash of Maybelline New York Expert Wear Stylish Smokes in Natural Smokes, a collection of smokey gray shadows that enhanced Emma’s gorgeous blue gray eyes. For added definition, she lined the upper lashes with Maybelline New York Line Stiletto Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black and finished with Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara in Very Black.

Lips: Kerry used Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lip Liner in Pink to give Emma’s lips definition, then filled in with Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick in Born With It for a light pink, glossy pout.
