i’m famous!! (sorta, not really)

Monday, October 7, 2013

Happy Monday! If you follow me on Twitter (and, really, why wouldn’t you?) you would have noticed that I was heavily promoting myself. Why? I got to play model to mark celebrity makeup artist – and all around awesome person – Jamie Greenberg. Take a look as I channel my personal shero- Naomi.

mark super color box

Jamie created three distinct looks on myself and other fabulous ladies using mark’s newest baby, the Super Color Box Total Face Palette. The Super Color Box houses 22 wearable (KEY WORD) shades in ONE portable compact, making it one product you should definitely buy this fall if your looking to update your makeup collection without breaking bank. My look was all about bold color because I am truly the boldest person alive. I swear.

You can shop the Super Color Box Total Face Palette here.

back to basics: brows

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

This entire summer I’ve been obsessed with three beauty related topics: brows, false lashes, and contouring As a result, I quickly learned that I can neither fill in my brows properly, contour without looking angry, and apply false lashes without gluing my eyes shut. More importantly, I’m not alone since many of you tweeted the you have issues as well.

Thus a new somewhat series is born on MissWYA. Lets call it “Back to Basics,” where I poll my industry insiders/ friends for their tips and tricks on how to master (or in my case, learn) how to do some of the most basic beauty related tasks. First up: brows.

miss whoeveryouareblog

brows done by Sarah Hutney

For brows, it sounds pretty easy but my biggest dilemma is my heavy hand. I tend to apply so much pressure that the filled in bit looks very much drawn in. It’s a lot less Brooke Shields and a bit more Groucho Marx. SO, I reached out to Arthur Boston, NARS National Makeup Stylist, who was able to provide the following:

Okay, no seriously, how do I fill in my brows?
“With a pencil or powder start underneath the brow and define the eye then, using a brow brush, brush the color up for a more natural brow look.”

Gel? Pencil? What’s a girl (or guy) to use?
“It completely depends on the brow; if you have a thicker brow it’s better to go with a gel like our new NARS Brow Gels, a thinner brow is more easily defined with a pencil like the new NARS Brow Perfectors.”

Isn’t black a bit harsh for brows a.k.a how to not make it look like you used eyeliner?
You would never use black on the brows, even a dark brow. The way to not make it look like you used eyeliner is to not actually use an eyeliner, use a brow pencil or powder (like an eye shadow) or gel to diffuse the color for a more realistic finish.

Adds makeup artist Sarah Hutney (who I met at a mark photo shoot recently - picture above!), “You want to start at the arch of your brow to add the most focus and definition there. From there you can swipe your brush towards the end of front of the brow.”

Sounds easy right? Shop my favorite brow products (affiliate links ahoy!):

new (to me) beauty products

Monday, April 1, 2013

oh, hello. As much as I like to think I’m up on the latest beauty breakthroughs and releases, sometimes a gal falls behind. Here are a few goodies that I’ve been obsessing over the past few weeks…

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, $45
Hourglass is one of those brands that quietly slipped into my radar because of the crazy intense (and pigmented) lip lacquers and, yes, their prices. They recently released the Ambient Lighting Powder, a universal finishing powder that features state-of-the-art technology to recreate the most exquisitely flattering types of light. Sounds amazing, right? There are six different shades that uses photoluminescent technology to filter out harsh light and refine the appearance of the complexion. The shade I’m most obsessed with is Radiant Light, a sun-kissed golden beige hue.

BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector™, $36
I’m never one to apply primer because it’s just on extra thing to add to my beauty routine BUT at the same time I’m always looking for something to stop the oil production factory that is my face. When a sample of BECCA’s new silicone-free primer finally came in the post, I applied without regret since it instantly mattified my face (although it left a slight tint). Foundation went on without a hitch and there wasn’t an issue with color at all. My face was left looking matte all day and I didn’t have any makeup sliding off of my face. For those of you who have avoided primer in the past, this is definitely in my top three and it doesn’t contain silicone, oil, alcohol, and fragrance.

Make It Rich Lip Color Crayon, $11
Not new to MissWYA but I felt it necessary to mention this lip pencil again because of how amazing it is. I’ve been rotating between shades but Peony has quickly become my go-to. It glides on and doesn’t feather or travel across my face. I apply and forget it - all I could ever want. It isn’t the shade I’m wearing in the photo above but if you follow me on Instagram, you’re guaranteed to catch a selfie one of these days.

I received samples gratis but I wouldn’t recommend anything if I didn’t truly love it.

(new to me) mark. got the goods foundation

Monday, February 25, 2013

some nights ago I was browsing Twitter (as usual) when I stumbled on a video from makeup artist Jamie Greenberg. She often uses mark. cosmetics and while I’ve only dabbled with mark. products she used Got the Goods foundation and I was intrigued. I’m a foundation hoarder and the thought of one existing without my owning it seemed rather unsettling. Crazy? So what!?!

naturally, I gave a ring (well, email…I don’t call anyone) to a few peeps (pr girl), et voila! I had my hands on mark’s latest addition to their lineup (official name Got the Goods Multi-Benefit Foundation Lotion SPF 15 — why do beauty companies insist on having the lonnggesstt product names?)

There were several things that piqued my interest surrounding this foundation and because I believe in lists, I will write them out one by one for you:

  • they have more than two shades for brown girls. My biggest pet peeve is when a beauty company goes up to “Honey” or “Caramel” and expect us to all fit into that category. Thanks for nothing! (looking at you L’Oreal). Luckily we have several to choose from with these guys and it looks to go real deep
  • It has SPF 15 (pretty low for me since I’m a freak and like SPF 30 but we all have to start somewhere)
  • It contains orange and lemon extracts (rich in vitamin C) and willow bark (known to make skin look firmer and tighter). Which means that this is supposedly good for you. PLUS it’s oil-free
  • It’s buildable! Again, I’m a freak who’s obsessed with full coverage foundation despite the fact that I have great skin (#humblebrag) but I hate the feeling of most full coverage foundations which come off as heavy and cakey. I wore this during fashion week and everyone complimented my skin - not my makeup. A major coup if you ask me. (But let’s remember, I do have awesome skin…#gloating) (just because I said that watch me get the world’s biggest zit in two days)

This is just a long winded way of saying you should probably pick it up. It’s light enough that it won’t suffocate your skin while giving good coverage but also that if you keep piling it on, it still won’t suffocate your skin. Just don’t go overboard. I found that two pumps was more than enough.

The lip pencil you see above is make it rich lip color crayon and is freaking amazing! It reminds me of he NARS lip pencils except not matte and wayyy(yyy) more affordable. For $11 you get something that is highly pigmented and lasts all day. The purple-ish color above provides high shine and looks great on. Even better is Hot Sauce, a beautiful red (not pictured) that lasts for about five hours without straying.

bright spot

Running out of the office to quickly snap photos of my excessively bright pants? Why not!

miss whoever you are
blouse: z spoke by zac spoken (gifted); jeans: goldy and mac; shoes: marchez vous (gifted); bag: rebecca minkoff delight bag (gifted); bangle: kate spade; watch: juicy couture

One of the joys of working in social media (professionally) AND having a fashion blog (for fun) is that I work with great brands and the people behind them then show them to you. Case in point: Marchez Vous, a shoe line created by actress, author, superwoman, etc. Yeardley Smith. After hearing Yeardley speak so passionately about her new line (debuted in Fall 2011), it was hard not to love the styles and different personalities (yes, each shoe has a different “personality”). Below I’m wearing Inés, who is described as a principal by day and a dancer at the Moulin Rouge by night. She’s sexy and she knows. A classic black pump (something I, oddly, did not have in my closet until now) that’s cute and comfy. Having worn this shoe all day at work and later at an event my feet were crying tears of joy instead of anguish. Brava Yeardley, brava.

rebecca minkoff for mark

The bag was a gift I received after attending the launch event. Designed by designer Rebecca Minkoff on behalf of mark cosmetics, it keeps the same edgy aesthetic of Minkoff’s designer line but available at a much lower price point. As mark has been doing the makeup at her runway shoes over the last couple of seasons, this collaboration was a natural fit. The Delight bag, as it’s called, retails for $60 and is available now.

Thanks for stopping by!

Pin It Disclosure: Marchez Vous is a client at my company. Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.Share/Bookmark
