I knew I was in trouble when saw these on the beats Instagram page but I completely fell in person. What started out as a trip to Target to check out the FEED collaboration, ended up in me dropping cash on something I hadn’t fully planned on. My impulsive tendencies are getting the worst of me and I’m not quite sure how to stop it (YOLO?)
I love me a set of headphones and when you add two of my favorite factors (neon + pink) I’m guaranteed to lose consciousness. Created in conjunction with David Guetta, Beats by Dre’s new neon Mixr is meant to be the perfect set of DJ headphones. Now I’m no DJ but I make a mean playlist. It’s pretty lightweight so it won’t weigh down your handbag and provides impeccable sound. Like, you feel you’re at a party with sick bass.
Unlike my Frends set, I don’t have to pump up the volume to 90% to feel like I can properly hear. The ear cups swivel back 90 degrees so now you don’t have to take off headphones when someone randomly starts talking to you. There are also two sets of cables in the package (one coiled w/o volume control; and the standard cable that allows you to adjust volume, pick up calls, etc.). They’re a bit tighter around the head compared to the Solo HD but I’m sure it’ll loose up once I start wearing it (I’ve only had it for 24 hours LOL).
My one hesitation with beats headphones is that recently the headband came undone on my Solo HD - legit, the soft cushion-y part of the headband came off and I contemplated crazy gluing them. Since they were still under my one year warranty, I was able to exchange them at Best Buy but now I’m nervous that it’ll happen again and I’ll be shit outta luck. Knowing this, I did purchase a three year warranty with Target but when you spend that much on a set of headphones, c’mon! I’m well aware there are other - probably higher quality - brands out there (Bose, Monster - who used to work with beats, etc.) but I like the sound and style beats give off. If I’m going to spend money on something, I might as well look good.
The Neon Mixrs are available in five different neon hues and can be found online and retailers like Target.
Yes, I added a new set of headphones to me collection and no, I don’t regret it.
When I first saw a pic of these headphones (on Lauren Conrad’s Instagram, obvs) I knew I needed them immediately. First of all they’re pretty, which is clearly important in my life. I wondered about sound quality because a pretty set of headphones is useless if the sound sucks SO I reached out for information from the brand and guess what…they sent me a pair! They also sent me a pair for a reader giveaway, so I surprised a reader who entered a previous giveaway (this is why you should enter — you never know when I may send out surprises!!) Congrats to Lucie in NY!
The Taylor headphones (above in rose gold) are made with actual metal - not cheap plastic - and have and angled ear post to prevent earrings from getting jammed. FINALLY! These are actually made for women because every detail aligns to what we want (great design) with a good product (the product).
The Taylor headphones are jewelry inspired and the conical ear speakers evoke such awe in public. The three button mic allows you to adjust the volume, control music and answer your phone without fumbling about. The sounds quality is nice and completely different from those used to beats bass heavy sound. I do find myself pumping up the volume more on these headphones on some songs compared to beats and SOL republic headphones that I own. What I love most is its ability to muffle out noise, and they’re SUPER lightweight and fold easily so they can fit into a small bag without fear of breaking.
These are undoubtedly cool and is the best conversation starter this fashion week season (plus, a random dude who snapped a pic of them They retail for $199 and you could buy ‘em at Apple or Best Buy.
SO what tunes am I jamming out to before hitting the tents? Peep ‘em below:
“Let’s Have a Kiki” - Scissor Sisters
“I Knew You Were Trouble” - Taylor Swift (don’t judge me)
“Locked Out of Heaven” - Bruno Mars
“Creepers” - Kid Cudi
“Phresh Out the Runway” - Rihanna
“Put it Down” - Brandy
“How to Be a Heartbreaker” - Marina and the Diamonds
Here’s a surprise to exactly no one - I’m obsessed with headphones. I don’t mean just any kind either - I want ‘em BIG and LOUD. I love it when the music surrounds me, enhances the beat, pumps the bass, and provides crystal clear sounds.
I received the SOL Republic Tracks HD headphones a few days back and I’m now torn on which I love more - my new Tracks HD or the Beats I caved and purchased a few weeks back. As someone who primarily listens to hip hop, rap, soca, reggae (and then pop) I look for something that provides a sick bass. When I first started listening to music on the Tracks HD (first song was “Rack City” natch), I was blown away. The sound engines (earcups) started thumping and, yes, I got hype.
Tracks HD are the first interchangeable headphones and not only offer great sound but amazing technology. Constructed of a seriously advanced polymer compound, their FlexTech™ Sound Track headband is built to withstand heavy abuse. This means if you’re like me and tend to just throw your headphones in your bag (or, ahem, fall asleep with them on), it can be twisted, bent, and dropped without fear of breaking. Also, you can switch out the headband which is like getting a new set every time! The three-button Mic + Music Control lets you adjust the volume, pause/resume/skip music and answer/hang-up calls. My only cons would be that they don’t bend like my Urbanears, Beats, and Fanny Wang but the Tracks HD comes with a slim-fit carrying case. And really, that’s miniscule compared to everything that you get! The simple fact that the headbands can be twisted and the like without breaking — I’ll take it and not complain.
NOW THE FUN PART: ’tis better to give than to receive so one (1) lucky MissWYA reader will be able to win a set of their own SOL Republic Tracks HD headphones!

Remember when I wrote this? Before leaving the house, I make sure there are four things in my bag: phone, pink lipstick (or gloss!), Starbucks bottled Mocha frap (addicted!) and a rockin’ pair of oversized headphones. While the phone has been upgraded and the lipstick is new (iPhone 4s and MAC Quick Sizzle), I’m still OBSESSED with headphones - the bigger the better. When Refinery29 reached out and told me of their current Reserve deal with Fanny Wang, I got über excited.
Fanny Wang gives you the option to customize their headphones with a slew of different colors. From now until February 26, you can create your own customizable set of headphones for 40% off retail via Reserve. I can’t comment on the sound quality since I’ve never owned/tried/experimented with the brand but I’m praying they have some awesome noise cancellation powers. Now, I’m neither creative nor imaginative (same thing, I’m aware) but after an hour of deliberating, swapping out band colors and debating on whether or not pink and purple really go together, I narrowed it down to three options.
MIND BLOWING COLOR COMBINATIONS! (not really) Which did I order? That’s a secret I’ll never tell (until they arrive at my office and I live tweet the entire experience).
Head over to Refinery’s Reserve to check out this limited offer. Happy designing!
Disclosure: the fine folks of Refinery 29 credited me for this but believe me when I say this is all my opinion. Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.
Remember that episode of Sex and the City where Carrie created a faux wedding registry all to get back her Manolos? I’m considering doing the same all for this luxe little gem (except for the fact that this is out of pure selfishness and not loss). The following is a study at GENIUS at its finest. Peep game…

I mean, HELLO! If there’s nothing I love more in life than a great pair of headphones, it’s a great pair of headphones covered in SILVER FOX FUR and have it be created by two of the bests - Beats by Dre and Oscar de la Renta. Fellow Dominican Oscar de la Renta has partnered up with Beats for a limited edition set of high performance headphones where you can not only listen to your music but do it in style. There was a time where I had a brief love affair with a set of Beats headphones (circa 2010), so I’m well aware of the rich, quality sounds and crystal clearness that’s delivered within each set.
Sure, I live and die by my current purple pair of un-Beats, but a girl has to live within her means. That is, unless, you have the $695 they’re asking for this guys. And, hell, if someone wanted to throw a pair of these my way I’d have NO PROBLEM saying sayonara to my current set. My loyalty runs deep.
Get yours (or if you’re like me, ogle them) over at oscardelarenta.com. You can also check out Beats’ range of gear here.
