Current Faves: Highlighters

The highlighting trend has been poppin for a minute now and while I’ve dabbled a bit into it in the past, this year—for reasons unbeknownst to me—I’ve become a woman obsessed with highlighters! I say dabbled because I have oily skin and it’s easy for me to get shiny/ greasy, so adding something with shimmer can go wrong very fast.
Best Highlighters For Strobing
Now I’m the type of girl who will wear a mattifying primer, matte as hell foundation and top it off with a highlighter 😂. Below are a few of my favorite highlighters.

Bobbi Brown Bronze Glow & Hourglass Ambient Strobing Powder

Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Bronze Glow ($46) is a beautiful highlighter on deep skin! This light-reflecting powder is a coppery bronze with warm undertones and a golden sheen. Picutred above is the holiday edition but there’s currently one available in the standard black Bobbi packaging (which I also bought just so I have a backup) (I told you I’m obsessed). I love applying it with this brush.

I bought the Hourglass Ambient Strobing Powder ($38, shade Euphoric) on a slight whim that was driven by hype. I fell into the internet OMGs and ran to buy it. I will say these are heavy on the sparkle. It is pretty glittery but it’s so beautifully subtle, I partially don’t care. I find that this is a great body glitter product so I know I’ll be dipping into this during the summer to highlight my collarbones and more. If you’re a fan of the Amrezy highlight, this isn’t for you. It’s subtle but noticeable.

Tarte Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette & Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator - Gilded Honey

Fact, I only bought the Tarte Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette ($42) because Makeup Shayla kept using it after she went on the trip with Tarte and I really liked the way it made her skin glisten and I was sold. That said, I will say I was disappointed when I got my hands on it. There are three shades in the palette: two shimmery highlighters (Sunlight and Moonlight) and a matte setting powder (Filtered Light). Moonlight is by far the best option on dark skin as it’s a light-medium, peachy gold with a warm undertone. Sunlight is a light gold that has less pigment than Moonlight and should be used with a light hand or it can look ashy. Avoid Filtered Light like the plauge! It’s chalky and dry; it does not go on well on the skin.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey ($26) is a legend in the YouTube world! It’s constantly sold out status really intensified my desire and I’m surprised it took me so long to purchase it. The minute I bought it, I knew I’d love it. A caramel honey shade, this is one of my go to’s and I find myself reaching for it more than any of the others on this list. It’s a sheer powder that goes on smoothly and blends beautifully.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in That Glow
Honestly when this was first released, I didn’t really care for it. The swatches ABH was posting didn’t entice me and honestly put me off. It wasn’t until Sephora started stocking the full color collection in store when my curiosity was piqued (plus the Glow kit was sold out which in my world means I MUST GET IT NOW!) (damn me). I swatched the That Glow it at Sephora and ULTA and finally bit the bullet. So glad I did! This has four metallic powder highlighters that give an intense look which I like to apply using this brush. Where the Hourglass Strobing powders are subtle, these are intense. The That Glow Kit consists of

  • Sunburst: A bright, luminous gold with a metallic finish
  • Bubbly: A champagne rose with a pearlescent finish
  • Dripping in Gold: A lavish gold with a vivid reflective finish
  • Golden Bronze: A sultry, warm bronze with a gold-flecked finish

So there it is. What are some of your favorite highlighters?
