Talk about surprises!! I was not not expecting to like the Olivia Palermo x Ciaté London collab. I personally love Olivia Palermo’s style. She’s feminine, fashionable, and fun. It’s what I wish my style was if I had the fund$$$. While I love her style, I didn’t run to Sephora to snap up this collab. That said the eyeshadow palettes stopped me in my tracks at Sephora.
The Smokey Suedes Eye Palette is a portable, well-edited palette with great texture and amazing color payoff. The palette itself is beautiful and the color scheme works well together. What drove me to purchase was the texture of the shadows. Swatching was a dream as each shadow was buttery smooth. They truly have a suede-like texture and feel. Typically in palettes there’s one or two shadows (typically the mattes) where the shadows are chalky or too powdery. Not the case here.
With this palette, you can create the perfect evening smokey eye look. You have the option to do either a plum, gold, or green smokey eye. Just be careful not to dig your nails into the palette since it will easily cause a dent. With the matte shades, you may have to build a bit but I love them along my crease or if I’m going for a soft look for day time. At $39 you may think this palette is pricey. It is. Especially compared to Urban Decay (a little bit more at $54) but I love it. My favorite shades are Plumberry (matte aubergine), Verde (pearl bright olive), Whoopie Pie (matte deep brown), and Cocoa (pearl bronze shimmer). Each blend beautifully and they create the most gorgeous green smokey. Though the palette is plastic, I love the faux leather and gold look. The small, compact size makes this palette travel friendly so it’s great for a weekend getaway or even tucked in your makeup bag for touchups. Without the right primer, I haven’t seen these shadows last longer than four to five hours (keep in mind I have really oily lids).
Seeing this palette has me swooning and pining for the Smouldering Eye Palette. This palette has deeper, richer shades and colors. I’m also interested in trying out the polishes in the collaboration. In all, I want to try the whole damn line. I’ve never given Ciate a fair shot as the brand has never truly appealed to me. Not a bad first impressions!
