Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette

Is it just me or is Kat Von D just everywhere? She is just releasing product after product that are getting so hyped up and with good reason.

Her new Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette ($46) is an “eye contouring” palette featuring three color quads in neutral, cool, and warm shades. Contouring is taking over the world!

There are three large base shadows are above their coordinating powders for contouring, defining, and highlighting. The powders are super soft and velvety making them easy to blend and layer as needed. The colors are pretty pigmented and although there are cool, neutral and warm shades I’m not afraid to mix and dip between the three to get the eye look that I’m looking for. The shadows are long wearing so you don’t have to worry about it disappearing by mid-day.

The Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette is available now. There’s even a Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush ($29), sold separately, which works well and has soft bristles (but you definitely don’t need it).

the makeup show nyc

I’m no stranger to attending The Makeup Show NYC and this year, it’s as if the event snuck up on me! Now in its 10th year, TMS is an opportunity for pro makeup artists and beauty enthusiasts to learn new techniques, sit in on some amazing keynotes (this year Billy B, David Klasfeld (founder of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics), and Rebecca Restrepo are all set to take the main stage), and more.

I first learned about Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics back in ’09 at The Makeup Show (read more here) and now they’re available in Sephora with quite the cult following. This is THE place to discover new brands while stocking up on your kit.

Tickets are still available so purchase yours (I recommend the two day pass if you can handle crowds because there is SO MUCH to see and learn). You won’t want to miss out.

Christopher Kane for NARS Summer 2015 Collection

nars christopher kaneFor Summer 2015, NARS partnered with designer Christopher Kane to create – NEONEUTRAL, a limited edition collection of unexpected shades and formulas inspired by the nature of neon and the nude shades that complement them. The collection features a ten, limited edition products. There’s something for everyone as it’s a full line of eyeshadows, blushes, multiples and lip glosses.
nars christopher kane reviewI received samples of two products: Outer Limits Single Eyeshadow and Quantum Illuminating Multiple.
nars christopher kane eyeshadowOuter Limits Single Eyeshadow ($25) is an iridescent rose gold with flecks of pink and gold sparkle. It has a soft texture, so soft that it tends to fall apart or break apart when applied. There is a lot of fall out so this is when I’d recommend applying your eye makeup BEFORE foundation. When it’s applied dry I notice that it’s hard to blend but if you spray your brush with a bit of Fix+ it’s much easier to apply. Also it’s best when patted versus swiped across the lid.

The Quantum Illuminating Multiple ($39) is a sheer iridescent magenta that’s exclusive to NARS boutiques and narscosmetics.com. I rarely (never) wear or use NARS multiples because I much prefer powder on my cheeks but this is one shade that I absolutely HAD to have.

It’s quite sheer but easily buildable if you’re looking for a more intense shade. When first applied, I noticed how dry the formula was but a bit velvety. I would use this solely as a blush. Although multiples can be used on cheeks and lips but this formula isn’t one that would perform well on your lips.

The collection is available at NARSCosmetics.com and NARS boutiques now, then at department and specialty stores on May 1, 2015. I definitely have my eye on the Starscape blush because it’s just so intense that you’d be a fool ot to get it if you have a deeper skin tone (plus if you’ve seen my top blushes video you’ll know I can’t say no to a hot pink blush).

jin soon x tila march

We’ve spoken about neutrals but now it’s all about the brights!jin soon tilaNail guru and all around awesome person Jin Soon Choi collaborated with designer Tamara Taichman of Tila March to create a beautiful collection of nail lacquers. The five shades range moody greens to pale pinks to neon lime-yellow. The colors last a looonnnngg time and are pretty fantastic. I am a major fan of Jin Soon polishes because the pigment is there with one or two coats (although Charme requires a third coat to be really intense). They’re not streaky and dry down pretty quickly.

All JINsoon formulas are 5-free and formulated without harsh chemicals such as formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin and camphor. The Jin Soon x Tila collection is available at Sephora now.
