gerard cosmetics lipstick review

gerard cosmeticsIf you watch enough YouTube videos or follow the beauty community on Instagram, you would have definitely heard about Gerard Cosmetics. If there’s one brand that’s been busy courting the vloggers, it’s Gerard Cosmetics (formerly known as Whitening Lightening/ Color Your Smile). Being the sucker that I am, I was unable to resist the siren song of lipstick. They promised me intense color payoff and long-wearing formulas. I caved and over the past few months have been quickly slowly building quite the collection.
gerard cosmetics lipsticksThe lipsticks, in a nutshell, are good. They’re not NARS Audacious level greatness but at the same time they don’t totally suck. I guess “meh” would be a good word for them. I can see why they hype exists, it’s a decent formula.
gerard cosmetics lipsticks 1995What I was trying to say in my video is that these are creamy matte lipsticks so they tend to drag on the lips when applied (especially 1995 and Fire Engine). Rodeo Drive and Berry Smoothie don’t do this and I’m not sure if it’s because they’re newer to the lineup or if it’s just me. I highly recommend applying lip balm underneath and exfoliating your lips otherwise it is #stugglecity. It will accentuate every line and flake. I do love Fire Engine, a blue based red, that gives you an Old Hollywood-esque vibe without being costume-y. I’ve been wearing it nonstop and even bought a backup (I briefly had a panic attack about almost finishing my RiRi Woo lipstick and this is a close third (Ruby Woo, obviously is second).

Must Haves: Fire Engine, 1995, and Berry Smoothie

NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette

When NARS releases something, you pay attention.
NARSissist Eyeshadow PaletteI previously featured the Dual Intensity eyeshadows in a video so I’ve always been a fan. True the individuals are on the pricier side ($29) but they are sooooo good. If you’ve been debating purchasing them, I recommend picking up the new NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette since it features eight dual-intensity eyeshadows with a range from delicate peach pink to rich black orchid. It comes with a specially designed wet/dry eyeshadow brush that makes applying the shadows a dream when wet.
NARSissist PaletteI actually love using the shadows dry since they are velvety, smooth, and pretty buildable. The finely milled shadows are easily blended giving you a bit of control when applying. For night, I’ve used the shadows wet (well I’ll spritz my brush with MAC Fix+ or Glossier Rosewater Spray) and hot dahm! The color is more intense and longer lasting when wet so go for it. Although there are eight shadows the ability to where it wet or dry gives you a bit more versatility. For the price, you can’t go wrong!

The NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow is available now in stores and online.

tartelette amazonian clay matte eyeshadow palette

When Tarte first debuted the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette ($44.00) late last year, I decided to pass (I purchased their holiday set instead) since an all matte palette didn’t really seem like something I needed. Lo and behold I caved after watching one too many YouTube reviews.

Shit happens.
tarte tartelette paletteThe palette consists of twelve matte eyeshadows ranging from yellowed beige to deep black. It’s neither too cool nor too warm so I definitely think it’s something everyone can benefit from. The shadows are super soft and not chalky making it easy to blend. I’ve been grabbing this palette for my everyday eye since all of the colors are wearable.
tartelette palette swatchesMy favorite color is Dreamer, a dark warm brown that provides opaque coverage. It lasts pretty much all day (eight hours) for me making it my staple. Another favorite is Bombshell which is a pigmented blackened purple. Super Mom and Free Spirit are two shades that don’t do much against my skin tone but if you’re fair or lighter skin, I imagine they’d be beautiful.

I will say I prefer using a primer underneath these shadows. Additionally I’ll usually do my eye makeup before applying foundation since there is fallout with a few of the shades. Overall I give this palette a B+.

The Tartelette palette is available now.

valentine’s day makeup: simple & easy

Are you tired of my Valentine’s Day posts yet? No? Good! This one’s for the girl who doesn’t one to wear a full face and prefers the natural look (and by natural I mean your behind still has to wear a bold lip, mmkay?)

easy valentines day lookCover FX Mattifying Primer // bareMinerals COMPLEXION RESCUE™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream // Milani Rose Powder Blush // Real Techniques Bold Metals Brush // bareMinerals Smoothing Face Brush // mark on the edge liner // MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara // Milani Matte Lipstick

So you’re not a cake face. That’s okay! If you prefer a more natural look or are looking for something to provide coerage without clogging your pores check out nareMinerals’ new COMPLEXION RESCUE™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. This sheer-to-medium gel gives you slight coverage while hydrating dry skin (perfect for the dry winter air). If you have oily skin, like I do, you can apply Cover FX Mattifying Primer With Anti-Acne Treatment beforehand to control the excess oil. To finish off the face, lightly apply Milani Rose Powder Blush in Tea Rose using Real Techniques‘ new Bold Metals 300 Tapered Blush Brush. Tea Rose is a dusty rose that applies beautifully and provides great coverage.

On the eyes, apply Colour Pop Cosmetics’ TO-A-T eyeshadow- – a matte mid-tone warm brown- across lids for a hint of color and line using mark on the edge liner (winging out a bit). This has been my staple liquid eyeliner because it’s dark and lasts forever without smudging off. Finish off by applying MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara, one of my all time favorite mascaras because it gives volume and length.
Simple valentines makeup
Finish off with Milani’s new matte lipstick in Matte Orchid (fuchsia). This color does require some attention. You’ll have to touch up after eating and the scent may annoy some (smells like watermelon candies).
