Travel Beauty Essentials: Makeup to Bring on Any Trip

Minimalism as a concept is great but in reality I know that I am not about that life. I’m a more is more kinda girl and when it comes to packing my travel beauty bag, I have such a hard time! Not only do I own A LOT of makeup, I always come up with random scenarios in which I would absolutely need three different eyeshadow palettes, three highlighting palettes, and 17 different lipsticks.

That said on a recent trip to Mexico, of the three makeup bags I packed (not counting skincare; legit three bags worth of makeup) a few things rose to the top and I thought I’d share, mmkay? Here are my travel beauty essentials in no particular order.

Travel Beauty Essentials

Since I was in warmer weather, I opted for creamier products that were easy to apply with fingers. I’m not normally one for finger application but while I was there, I just didn’t feel the need to faff around with brushes, etc. My priorities were beach and rum so I wanted to be outta the hotel as fast as possible! I absolutely love NARS’ Multiples and the Matte Multiple in Laos is the perfect flush of color for the cheeks. Just a couple of swipes and a blend and my cheeks were perfectly flushed and not too “done.”

Next was highlight — I opted for Glossier’s Haloscope in the shade Topaz because it gives the perfect dewy highlight effect. This highlighter gives “sweaty sexy” skin which is a thing I’ve come to love apparently. It’s like you’re sorta shiny but not gross; highlighted but not extra. It’s as if I radiate “glow” and am just one of those girls, y’know? If you shop using my Glossier Reps page you get 20% off your first order and free shipping when you spend $30 or more.

Another highlight that gives off that sexy glow is the Bobbi Brown Glow Stick in Sunkissed. This one is not as shiny and wet looking as Glossier’s and it’s the one I prefer for evening. It’s absolutely stunning.

Speaking of sweat, I always need something to cool me down in hotter climates and what better product than face mists? I legit brought three (THREE!) face mists with me Mexico which is not at all excessive. The one that stood out due to it’s ultra fine mist is the Hydrating Aloe Continuous Mist by Hampton Sun. Unlike a lot of face mists, this one doesn’t spit out product at you or leave random splotches of water on your face. 10/10 would recommend.

I LOVE the Ouai Hair Oil. Ouai isn’t a brand I talk about often simply because I doubt they make products for *my* hair type. But I love a good hair oil and this one is lightweight, doesn’t leave my hair feeling heavy or flat, and actually hydrates my strands. Plus it smells amazing and left my hair looking hella shiny but not in a Soul Glo kind of way.

On my lips I stuck with Glossier’s Balm Botcom in Coconut, because tropical.

Lastly, but most importantly, is the SPF! Supergroup is one of my favorite brands for skincare and this Defense Refresh Setting Mist Broad Spectrum SPF 50 mist (another one!) is a weightless mist that sets makeup, helps control oil and shine, and protects against the sun. The first few sprays spits out at you but after a while I stopped having issues with the pump. This stayed in my bag at all times with me.

Believe it or not, I did’t really need foundation in my travel beauty bag! AKA I brought the WORST foundation on the trip and my makeup was sliding off of my face. I’ve also gotten my skin to a place where I don’t *need* to cover it up — HUZZAH! Skincare routine to come…stay tuned!

The supergroup setting spray is my favorite. Talk about a 2 for 1! SPF & Setting spray. I always travel with the travel size for carry on purposes.

The mist with SPF50 sounds amazing. I don’t believe I’ve come across that combo before, thanks for sharing xx
