Here’s the deal, I’m a sucker for anything that promises a matte finish. Since I have oily skin, I’m always on the hunt for something to mattify my skin and stop the shine. Origins’ latest release —Original Skin Matte Moisturizer ($34)— definitely caught my eye on Instagram so I was de-light-ed when I received a sample in the mail.
Original Skin™ Matte Moisturizer is a mattifying moisturizer for hydrated, healthy-looking skin.
It promises to instantly hydrate skin, even tone, and minimize pores.
The texture is that of a water gel consistency so it’s super lightweight and doesn’t feel thick or greasy on the skin. My skin has gotten a bit more normal/ oily as I’ve gotten older and I see that in the way my skincare products sink in.
This moisturizer definitely mattifies the skin, pretty much instantly. Highly impressed! It’s so good to see a product actually do what it says. I find that this is perfect before applying makeup because my skin is super soft and makeup lays beautifully on top.
Unfortunately, I cannot wear this alone because it doesn’t hydrate my skin that much. I find that certain areas, namely around my mouth, feel really tight after applying. I truly wish I had this product in early summer when my skin tends to over produce oil.
As the temperature cools, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to rely solely on this to hydrate because of the tightness factor. I use this more as a primer thinly sole moisturizer.
This does not have SPF in it. I like to use my Tatcha sunscreen first because it’s non greasy and doesn’t leave a white cast. I apply the Original Skin Matte Moisturizer on top for a nice matte look.
Overall, I think this is a good product if you need something to instantly stop shine and prep skin for makeup. I do recommend coupling it with a more hydrating product to avoid any issues.
