Remember the “why don’t you” series? Yeah, me neither 😉 Last time, I admitted I was running out of ideas but then it hit me this morning so I’m (seriously) reinvigorating this column. Again.

  • Warholi-ize yourself! To celebrate the new NARS Andy Warhol collection, the NARS team just launched a super fun Facebook app – the NARS Andy Warhol Profile Makeover! With this app, you can makeover your Facebook Profile and Cover photos inspired by the collection. This video gives more deets.
  • Have you read this article in the New York Times about plus size bloggers? Do it.
  • Last week I attended the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on behalf of my client and I can’t WAIT for it to air. Do you typically watch the show?
  • It’s no secret I love Kiehl’s so when I saw their 4th Annual Limited Edition Creme de Corps Holiday Collection, I nearly died of its cuteness. This years’ collaboration is with New York Pop artist Kenny Scharf and 100% of the profits will support children’s charities worldwide. Shop up!
  • Don’t complain about tomorrow being Monday, smile, and say thank you to your barista!

why don't you

Remember when I used to do the “Why Don’t You” series? Gosh, it’s been a long time, right? To be honest, I found myself running out of ideas, so instead of feeding you BS I simply stopped. Lately, I’ve been itching to try new things and what better way than to write them down, right? Laziness aside, I’m reinvigorating this column!

  • rock an orange pout. I’ve been trying them out a bit more and have fallen head over heels
  • wear frilly dresses to work/ school/ wherever
  • if you’re office or school is conservative, try something in pale pink., green, or blues. Just because Easter is over, doesn’t mean you should stop wearing pastels!
  • saw this on Glitter Guide and had to share: the girls of Honestly…WTF has a DIY version of Stella McCartney’s Falabella iPad case. Try it out here.
  • smile more
  • Like! 😉

Have a great week!

I know I’ve been MIA this past week and it was totally unplanned! Oops! I needed the week to clear my mind, set some goals and prepare for the new year.

As 2010 peaces out and I reflect on all the accomplishments (and -err mishaps) of this past year, I welcome the New Year and what it has to offer. 2010 was, overall, an amazing year for me. Allow me to share a few of the highlights, shall we? I’m writing this now to avoid the subsequent breakdown of the Internet as everyone tries to log on to every site at the stroke of midnight…

  • I GRADUATED COLLEGE!!!! (and avoided being another statistic about Black youth in America).
  • I got a JOB after graduation. OHAI real world. And nanny nanny poo poo to everyone who doubted me
  • I discovered the Clarisonic. Washing my face will never be the same again.
  • We celebrated THREE years of MissWhoever You Are. I may not be featured in Vogue or have designers clamoring to work with me but I’ve had some amazing experiences, met amazing women (and a few dudes too) who I now call friends.
  • Fashion Week a.k.a the Super Bowl of fashion
  • The birth of my niece
Here she is at 8 months!!

As you get ready to fête the night away, don’t forget your must haves mmkay?

— False lashes: Revlon Fantasy Lashes are pretty damn amazing
— Bright lipstick: MAC’s Stylish;y Yours collection has got you covered
— Flawless skin: with all of the pictures that will eventually land on Facebook, it’s imperative your skin look flawless. Revlon PhotoReady foundation is your guy. It got me through 2010 and I’ve stocked up for 2011.
— Blushing beauty: I’m a huge fan of blush but with the bright lips going on, you don’t want too much blush and end up looking like a clown. Grab IMAN Cosmetic’s “Afterglow” for cheeks that will be subtly highlighted and contoured as you wish.

Happy New Year dolls! Thank you for reading, subscribing, tweeting and logging on with me in 2010. Now let’s go get ready to ring in the new year 😉

Happy belated holidays MissWYA fam!!

I temporarily lost my laptop charger so I couldn’t log on Christmas.

I woke up this morning to a wonderful sheet of snow that had Canarsie slightly white. Now that sheet has turned into several inches and we in NYC are in the midst of a blizzard. Yay! Call me crazy but I love when it snows I just hate the aftermath — muddy streets, blankets of ice)

Feeling particularly lazy today, I find it super hard coming up with new ideas for this weekly column.

  • Make your way to Bath & Body Works Their sale just started and it is B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Travel sized lotions are going for $1. yeah…
  • Speaking of shopping… Victoria’s Secret PINK bras are buy one, get one 50% off. Forever 21 has the most amazing deals for basic long sleeve tees ($4.50)
  • Run through the snow like you’re a kid If you’re fortunate enough to have some snow in your area, enjoy it while it’s still clean. I’m five seconds away from making a 5’10” snow angel
  • If you want to act like an adult stay inside with some hot chocolate and read a novel you haven’t read since school days (Pride and Prejudice anyone??)
  • Say thank you
  • If, for some strange reason, you don’t like drinking hot chocolate head on over to Carol’s Daughter for a haute chocolate pedicure ($36). Feet are soaked and scrubbed with cocoa, brown sugar, peppermint and honey. Cocoa lessens the appearance of wrinkles, protects your skin with antioxidants and gives you a serotonin boost. Carol’s Daughter, 24 W 125th St between Fifth Ave and Malcolm X Blvd (Lenox Ave) 212-828-6717.
  • Donate a coat to those who really need it
  • Go ice skating
  • Smile more
  • Go shopping for you New Year’s Eve outfit!!!!

Happy December friends!! SO what if we’ve been in December for a full five days.

It’s so hard to believe that December is upon us already. The holidays are in full swing (Happy Hanukkah to any/ all of my Jewish readers!) and NYC is just beaming with holiday spirit. While I haven’t always loved this time of year, living in NYC makes it damn near impossible. Between holiday windows and Mariah’s Christmas album, I kind of get a bit into this cheery mood. Until Christmas day comes but that’s a whole ‘nother story.

Consider today the calm before the storm. Before you go back to the madness of holiday shopping in addition to your hectic work week, sit down, grab a glass of vino and join me for another Why Don’t You…

  • If you haven’t already, watch Bergdorf’s “Making of Bergdorf Goodman’s 2010 Holiday Windows” This is so beautiful and I don’t know why I’m now sharing.
  • Step outside of your comfort zone a bit this week It could be the simplest thing as speaking to someone you kinda/sorta know or wearing a bold lip if you only wear nudes.
  • Shave everything. Yeah I said it
  • Donate to Haiti for the holidays. Yes this is a completely biased bullet point but as you go through and purchase the Sony TV’s, Kindles and iPods, just remember that $25 provides $75 worth of food in Haiti.
  • Go on and bid. A few beauty bloggers got together, under the guidance of the fab Karla of Karla Sugar, for This site is auctioning some of the most coveted beauty items, all benefiting Doctors Without Borders. There are more than 40 brands and bloggers participating (including yours truly). The auction runs through December 20th at 5pm CST.
  • Dress up even if you have no reason to. Saving your clothes for when you go out doesn’t make any sense. I’ve slowly come to realize this throughout 2010 and must STOP purchasing beautiful pieces of clothing than “saving” them for a “special” day. Everyday you’re alive is special.
  • Indulge in something chocolate or sugar or cookie or ice cream or just fucking sweet once a week. You deserve it.
  • Thank God/ Jehovah/ Allah/ Spiritual Being/ Whatever You Believe In for giving you the breath of life every morning you rise. Deep.
  • On a less serious note, purchase a something that you find to be expensive for no reason. $38 Coach key fob, I”m looking at you!
  • Do you own a corset? Why the fuck not? If you’re on the shy side, Hanky Panky’s got you covered
  • Reorganize your room/ office/ living room I did this over the weekend and a) I never realized how much SPACE I have in my room and b) find it a lot easier to focus and function.
  • Last but most certainly not least: ENTER MY CLARISONIC GIVEAWAY. It ends on Tuesday and you’ll be kicking yourself later if you didn’t enter. Details here
