nars spring 2013

With January’s arrival comes the plethora of new beauties – namely the Spring beauty collections. Spring has sprung in the beauty world and it is my a beauty girl’s wet dream! The first up in my rotation is by NARS Cosmetics.

Fresh and fierce, strong and sexy; the Spring 2013 Color Collection introduces a vibrant, ‘90s-esque palette that sets the tone for a season of audaciously feminine looks. Created by Founder & Creative Director François Nars, the collection heralds spring’s arrival with shades ready to make a graphic statement. – NARS press release

nars spring 2013L-R: Seduction blush, Persia single eyeshadow, Dresses to Kill lipstick. Samples provided by PR; opinions my own

Where do I even get started? The photos alone made me swoon and with the 90s reference I knew I had to get my hands on them. When the samples arrived I was manic! The orange eyeshadow is slightly intimidating simply because it’s out of my realm. I’m more of a blue and green girl but Persia ($24) is absolutely stunning. Described as a matte paprika shade, Persia goes on very soft and isn’t chalky when applied. Using my fingers I was able to quickly apply at work and the result was pretty shocking. It’s not a shockingly bright color and can definitely be worn for everyday (keep in mind I’m dark skin so the color was warm and complemented my skin tone). Blending is a breeze and I didn’t experience fallout throughout the day.

Dressed to Kill ($24) lipstick is described by the company as a fuchsia rose with gold shimmer but on me it shows more as a deep red with glitter. When I applied it, I was a bit underwhelmed since the color didn’t really do much for my overall look. Not a fan of glitter in my lipsticks but the color does last for 2-3 solid hours (not surprising as NARS lipsticks are amazing).

La pièce de résistance in my opinion is Seduction ($28) blush. When it comes to blushes NARS makes some of the best and some of my favorites simply because they look amazing on dark skin. Simply put NARS blushes have this way of giving your cheeks a natural, healthy look with a bit of color but not garish. Seduction is a sangria shade meaning it’s a bit like a wine hued blush that nearly gave me a heart attack, that’s how great it is. It has a hint of shimmer but not chunks and lasted all day. I didn’t have to reapply at the end of the day before meeting up with friends and that’s all I ask of my makeup. I typically go for the pink blushes but this plummy wine is a new favorite because it just livened up my entire face.

While the colors in this Spring 2013 collection aren’t your typical spring shades [no pastels here], they’re more like pieces you can incorporate and mix and match in your current makeup selection, rather than live solely on their own.

The collection is available beginning January 15th at

I am SO HAPPY that you reviewed the NARS Seduction blush. I saw it online and while it looked like it would be great for my skin, I had some trouble finding reviews for dark skin. Actually, to clarify, I had trouble finding reviews that illustrated my dark skin, as the reviewers I found had ‘dark’ as in olive skin…I needed a review for skin that was darker than olive…:-)
