It seems that I spoke to soon as Sarah Jessica Parker's latest creation, SJP NYC, seems to have grabbed me in and isn't letting go. At all. The fragrance was inspired by Parker's own character and fashion icon, Carrie Bradshaw and it captures the essence of freedom, New York and style.
“I wanted to create a fragrance with a great sense of fun and whimsy,” said Sarah Jessica Parker. "It’s about mixing things up and breaking rules, all of the things I like about fashion."
SJP NYC is classified as a fruity floral and, in fact, reminds me of Pretty- another fruity floral. The first spritz of SJP NYC was quite shocking because for a brief moment I was sure I sprayed the wrong scent. It smelled EXACTLY like Pretty! I was both excited and disappointed as I love finding new fragrances but not exact dupes.
Dejected I waent about my day without an afterthought. However as the day progressed SJP NYC did something that Pretty has y to fulfill- last all day without fading. Pretty is a pretty scent that is wearable for day- and mostly day alone. It's a light scent that leaves you feeling feminine but it is only a spring scent and cannot handle cooler weather.
SJP NYC on the other hand, is both feminine and fun. Much more versatile than Pretty. The scent transforms ever so slightly from light to a bit heavier scent with the Sandalwood and Musk kicking in at the end. It's strong doesn't grab you in a chokehold begging for mercy. I've been wearing it now for about a week (a week in NYC where it went from 20 degrees to 60) so this s definitely the champion of the two scents. After dissecting the scents a bit, I've realized that it's only the top note of Italian Mandarin that is similar and is what grabs you in for both scents (what a powerful grab, eh?). It's a strong note that, at the same time, isn't too heavy.
The glass bottle is housed in a playfully canister designed in bold patterns and bright colors and fits perfectly in my purse or tote, making this my perfect go to scent.
Here's the breakdownop Notes:
Top note: Italian Mandarin, White Osmanthus, Wild Red Strawberries
Heart Notes: Gardenia, Honeysuckle, Mimosa, Red Rose Damascenia
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla Absolute, Rum Flavor, Creamy Musks
The SJP NYC Collection boasts of three eau de toilette sprays (60ml for $49.00; 30ml for $35.00; 15ml for $25.00) and a 200ml body lotion for 25.00. It is available at fine department stores nationwide.
