Well well well…looks like we have to put an end on 2009 and start fresh with 2010. I’m a firm believer in before going ahead, you have to look at the past (just don’t dwell in it). What a year in beauty it was though,, right?
We said goodbye to brands (Prescriptives shut down. Rimmel stopped selling in the US) and learned new tips and tricks. But here are the top 20 products that made my ’09 oh so memorable (in no particular order):
So what if the line is geared for women in their 30s and up? The Deep Repairing Cream, while a bit heavy on my twenty something skin, proved to be the most moisturizing face cream I’ve used all year. Lumene’s Excellent Future line contain Applexcell™, a unique combination of a modern apple stem cell extract and ancient Arctic white peat, that work together to provide anti-aging benefits. I’m all for protection and prevention baby!
2. Pantene Pro-V Nature Fusion Smooth Vitality Conditioner
2009 was definitely a good hair year for me. I went from transitioning into natural hair, to relaxing and now I just may give natural hair a go again. Pantene’s latest hair potion, Pro-V Nature Fusion Smooth Vitality Conditioner, proved to be the PERFECT conditioner for my transitioning locks. It made my hair unbelivebaly soft and touchable. Tangles are but a myth when I use this product. I’ve found a mate for life (well…for the next couple of months ;)…)
3. Leonor Greyl Shampooing Moelle de Bambou Shampoo
Also working wonders in the hair department is Leonor Greyl’s Shampooing Moelle de Bambou Shampoo. It ain’t cheap (35 bucks!) but it’s worth every. single. penny. Never have I EVER fell in love with a shampoo that can, not only handle transitioning hair, but smells so delicious at the same time! If there’s one item you want to splurge on in 2010, make it this one.
4. Clean and Clear’s Makeup Dissolving Foaming Cleanser
My love for Clean & Clear has been rekindled in ’09 primarily because of their latest makeup dissovling line. This oil free foamin cleanser is the BUSINESS!! It really does it’s job in removing makeup and not irritating my skin.
5.Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color
My first foray into the world of Max Factor lipsticks and I fell in love.
It was like when Urkell first laid eyes on Laura– instanteous attraction. Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color goes on creamy and smooth without settling or drying your lips like most lipsticks out on the market. Affordable. Beautiful. Long Lasting.
6. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara
Honestly, for lashes that touch your eyebrows, this is all you need. Maybelline never ceases to amaze me with their mascaras and at such an affordable price you’d be hard pressed at finding one that does the deed without breaking the bank.
After watching thousands of YouTube beauty gurus rave about NYX cosmetics, I decided to go out and try them myself. So glad I listened and bought. NYX and LA Colors are under the radar makeup companies that sell insanely pigmented eyeshadows and blushes at such low prices it should be criminal. My collection of NYX cosmetics (especially their blushes) and LA Colors eyeshadows has grown exponentially since I last posted about them. If I weren’t such a makeup snob and serial polygamist, I’d probably just use these brands alone. But then again, where’s the fun in that???
8. Lancôme Artliners
Want liquid liner that stays put without lacking in intensity?? Look no further than Lancôme’s Artliners. Not to be confused with their gel artliners (which is equally amazing) these babies are hardly new to the Lancome family, yet I just discovered them upon landing my internship. Nothing last longer and for a liquid formula, its super easy to apply.
9. Huge Lips Skinny Hips
Purple Lab rocked my world back in July when I first discovered the brand and their fabulously dressed creatrix, Karen Robinovitz. Purple Lab isn’t for the meek- these girls are full of life, sass and style.
Worship Kate (the gloss I own and am in dire need of backup) is a yummy plummy color that hydrates as well as leaves my puckers super soft. Huge Lips Skinny Hips is probably the only lip plumper that doesn’t sting or irritate my lips, so you know I’m in love! I can’t wait to see what the brand comes up with for 2010 (rumor has it that there’s blush in the making *squeals*). At the moment, the Purple Lab girls are celebrating their newest venture, HSN, with a model search contest- Enter Here.
10. NARS Sheer Matte Foundation
Where do I begin? This is perfection in a bottle (a rather expensive bottle, I’ll say that…$42, sheesh!) Despite the pricey tag attached, this foundation does not disappoint. I thought sheer meant lack of coverage but clearly I was mistaken. Completely buildable, this foundation does what it says. Matte means matte. If you’re anti-glow, like I am consider getting this in your lifestyle now.
11. Orlane Paris Absolute Radiance Set
I spent seven minutes in heaven last year and totally did not blog about it. As a fellow beauty addict, I apologize for not telling you about the most amazing facial experience I’ve ever had in my 22 years of living. The lightbox refreshes tired skin making you look and feel more awake. Skin is beyond soft and the glow that remains will have everyone thinking you got a professional facial done. This is my secret weapon after a stressful weak (umm..hello finals week) or whenever I just want a pick me up for my skin.
12. Delirium & Co Blue Absinthe candle
Ok so it’s not a beauty product, per se BUT nothing calms me down quicker than this concoction of absinthe, vetyver and blonde woods. Such a dark and sexy scent certainly puts me in the right mood.
13. Revlon Fantasy Length False Eyelashes
Best set of false lashes I have ever used. Period. I don’t have the cash flow for shu uemura falsies, so these budget friendly and easy to apply sets will do.
14. Hair Rules NYC
The way I get my hair done has forever been changed since I was introduced to celeb hairstylist Anthony Dickey and his salon Hair Rules. Not only is he amazingly talented in the treatment of textured hair (curly, kinky, you name it), his line of products are UNBELIEVABLE. Each product has a purpose and does so without stripping hair of the necessities.
I first discovered Illamasqua back in March before it was available to us in the States. Insanely jealous of my friends across the pond, I was ready to call my homegirl Valerie to beg her to send me products from abroad. But the beauty gods heard my plea and not too long after beauty mecca (and my second home) Sephora started stocking the British brand. I now live and die by my blush (Beg).
16. MAC Color Craft
This is the collection that introduced me to MAC’s famed mineralized skinfinish products. I may have been tardy to the party, but I arrived in style. Style Demon blush is a must for days where I want to wow someone without giving them too much glitter and after watchin Erin of Scandalous Beauty school us (via YouTube) on the multiple uses of Warm Blend MSF, I’m a believer. Check our Erin’s video here
The award for most worn fragrance of the year definitely has to go to Elizabeth Arden’s “Pretty”. The best scent that goes from spring to summer to winter. This is a girly scent that is still sophisticated. I wear it during the day and I cannot begin to tell you the amount of compliments I’ve gotten throughout the year.
18. TREsemmé Body Collection
This collection breathed new life into my normally flat hair ladies! The definite star of this collection, in my book, is the 24 hour body finishing spray. It gives the perfect amount of hold without leaving hair crunchy or flaky. Lightweight and soft, my hair never feels sticky or dirty after using this up.
19. Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics
I left The Makeup Show looking quite gorgeous one day and it was all because of Pauline Youngblood Soli and her fantastic team of makeup artists. Never has mineral makeup looked so good. Youngblood’s milling process, natural shade selection, and flawless finish make it ideal for Hi Def application. And let’s face it, it’s either Hi Def or it’s no bueno.
20. Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara
For lashes that has tons of volume, I reach for Lancôme’s Hypnôse Drama mascara. After leaning that the Kardashian sisters love them some Lancôme mascaras, I knew I was onto something (I love love love Oscillation mascara). Those girls always have bangin’ makeup and now I know their secret (they use Hypnôse minus the Drama). The S-shaped curve brush grabs every lash and packs on the pigment. I don’t see a mascara that can beat this baby out.
What beauty products rocked your world in 2009? Let me know in the comments. Don’t forget, I’m giving away a makeup bag full of my favorite things, see here for more details.
