Hey welcome to another Pucker Up Wednesday. Normally when I have a lip product review, I rave about it. I haven't met one lip product (gloss, lipstick, balm or otherwise) that I haven;t fallen in love with.
Until now...
As much as I hate to say it, Carol's Daughter Wet- Natural Shine for Lips (in Coconut) has truly disappointed me. I want to love the line because I support Lisa Price (founder of Carol's daughter) and I love the ad campaigns, etc . but this lip butter was no good.
From the website:
- Heals dry chapped lips
- Protects lips from extreme weather conditions, i.e. sun and cold winds
- NO PETROLEUM, Paraben, mineral oil and artificial color FREE
Shea Butter, Almond Oil, Macadamia Oil, Beeswax, and Cocoa Butter.
The pros about this product:
It's natural so there's none of that chemically stuff. Cocoa butter is superb for dry and chapped winter lips (and skin!) and it really protects you from the harsh winds and sun. The coconut's not bad either.
My verdict:
As I said, this lip butter was no good for. In terms of moisturizing it didn't feel greasy so I'll give it that. But at the same time it wasn't super luxurious or anything. It took a lot of product on my lips for it to not feel rough. I like it when my lip products glide on rather than me having to layer it on just so I can feel like I have something on my lips. What really did in for me though was the Shea butter. I never knew, up until trying this product out, how much I hated Shea butter. And I mean HATE! Everytime I licked my lips I had this icky buttery taste in my mouth. Eventually I got sick...like it seriously affected my taste buds or something because everything tasted like Shea butter. Also the scent got to be extremely annoying. It got to the point where I had to use Vaseline to wipe it all off clean. I do wish that it lasted longer too. Since the gloss does absorb quickly it requires constant reapplication (and when you don't like shea butter...that presents a problem). It's also annoying to have to constantly whip out your lipgloss every ten to fifteen minutes. And you have to apply with a lip brush (which I do not own) or your fingers (thus getting product all over your hand).
And it's not something you can stuff into your jean pocket- it creates that ugly and uncomfortable bulge. But that's just a personal preference.
If you're looking for a product that moisturizes and is especially good for winter then I would suggest this as long as you don't mind reapplying it. And for $6, it's not a bad investment. If you don't like the taste/scent of shea butter, stay away.
My rating: D (first bad lip review...ever...=/..)
