The City...Whitney Port...and my city

Ok as a native New York and budding fashionista, I make it my BUSINESS to watch any show claiming dibs on my city a.k.a New York City and it's style. In my mind, there is only one show...ONE...that can claim the rights to NYC and that is Sex and the City...for obvious reasons.

And now that I've had a full 24 hours to digest former Hills alum, Whitney Port's new show, aptly called The City, I have to say my piece.

Now before we begin I just have to say this, and please people do not get mad/offended or whatever...there was FINALLY black people on one of these shows! Even though they weren't a part of the cast, had no lines, and probably landed on air because they were in the way...there was still some (two) black people. Don't recall what I am talking about? Well in the second episode when our resident mega hot Aussie, Jay, was about to knock sweetface/jealous ex, Alex, in the face there was Black Person #1 who kinda stopped the fight and than like 5 seconds later Black Person #2 got in the camera's way.

SCORE!

I'm just sayin'...now that we're in NYC maybe we could get a little diverse MTV??

Now back to the actual show. I loved it! ***Please note that this is a completely biased remark because, simply put, its NYC. My NYC. And they included New York Fashion Week which is like one week of heaven for me so...***

It's interesting to see how Whitney's style has changed once she moved to NY. In The Hills, she's normally sporting tees and the like but there were heels, heels, heels in NYC baby! And I'm lovin' her look. There's a lot of leg going on though...it's like this girl doesn't own anything that covers her gams. But whatever 'cuz if I had the confidence I'd be rockin' the same outfits..ha.

Also, with a job at Diane von Furstenberg, you gotta represent I mean seriously.

Anywhoo, the show was good. One thing that ran through my mind was "Who in NY lives like this??" Seriously. Okay, I know my life is less then spectacular and glamorous and I don't spend my nights hanging out in Tenjune. But judging by my Twitter peeps, I'm not alone in thinking this. This show clearly altered my view of how the other half lives. As I read other blogs and the comments that follow I'm finding that a lot of people don't like the show. People! It's exactly like The Hills except:

a.) It's in NYC, which is officially known as The City (but I could have told you that ten years ago. I don't know any New Yorker who calls Manhattan, "Manhattan" or "NYC", and the only reason why I write NYC on this blog is so non-NY-ers know what city I'm referring to)
b.) The fashion is clearly different. It seems that people in NY dress up more than LA.
c.) Instead of Justin Bobby here is Jay the Aussie.

PS: Check the outfit:
I died when I saw this promo pic of Whitney's long lost BFF Erin. Purple. Gold. Short. Me.

Another thing became apparent as I watched The City. I'm probably the only New York fashionista (yes I said it. I am proclaiming myself from here on out as...yet another fashionista) that doesn't own a blazer.

Yes I said it. I am proclaiming myself from here on out as...yet another fashionista. Like we need more but...

Now I know this staple has been around for several fashionable seasons (which is now considered decades as anything "in style" for more than a season is old apparently) but I never cared much for it as I could never think of the "right" way to wear it. But watching little Miss LA do her thing in a nice form fitting black blazer...I'm curious. More on that later though. In the meantime, let us have a moment of silence for the shoes....

I love the show too. Since I can't travel to the CITY it is fun to see the sites the people are fun too. I thing the Hill and the city should get awards for best facial expressions with out talking. I give the show 5 stars.
It's nice to see the girls grown-up and having fun with fashion and the boys.

Holly: I totally agree! Whitney's facial expressions are hilarious! She's constantly looking aloof and distant but you can't get mad at her lol
