Ahh...the Inaugural Ball Gown: The Race Begins!!

So my fave lady, and CFDA President, Diane von Furstenberg has submitted her sketches of Michelle Obama's inaugural ball gown. She announced that last night to NY Mag's The Cut.

"Well, they asked me to. Of course, everybody has," she said. "I'm so proud to be an American. Otherwise, right now we would all be so depressed." (nymag.com)

One person I'm curious about is Thakoon Panichgul. We already know that Michelle O. is a fan and boy do we remember that dress. However, he's remaining mum on the word, telling The Cut, "Um … we'll see what happens," You sly dog you.

Ahhh! How I wish I could be in Washington for the inauguration itself. But it's clear that all eyes will be on Mrs. O since she is a very stylish woman. I'm curious as to which designer she picks for her gown. Carolina Hererra is a bit too much, in my opinion, for Mrs. O simply because she has this natural elegance and clothes that are a bit too much kind of seem overpowering. Though I do love Carolina Herrera (the woman) as I feel she embodies everything of old school glamour, I'd say she's more of a Cindy McCain designer, very polished at all times. Other designers I can see for Michelle:
Chanel: just because Karl Lagerfeld is a master with how he can recreate a Chanel classic in a modern contemporary way. And is Michelle not a modern contemporary woman?? And I love Karl so this decision is extremely unfairly biased =)
Cynthia Rowley: Her clean cut lines and tailored dresses are fit for a woman of Michelle's height.
Donna Karan: all American designer for the all American woman.
Giles Deacon: whimsical yet not in a "Ohmigod-what-is-she-wearing" kind of way. The bright colors, beautiful design, the craftsmanship, and the often pop culture references is something that can be brought into the "new White House" as I like to call it.
Move a step forward, Michelle!! No pantsuits please! Though I do love my pantsuits myself, I just want the return of when women dressed up and looked more feminine. Evoke that sense of glamour girl! The fashion world will be watching...stay tuned!
Who do you think Michelle should rock as her inauguration ball gown?

You are too cute I LOVE this post! I think she might do DVF. Diane's designs are always so feminine, so womanly. They accentuate an already beuatiful body without overpowering it. Her dresses are always so cute and sassy. Very sexy with a hint of additude. I think that sums up Mrs. O...right?
