Paris Fashion Week SS 09: Chanel

I love Karl Lagerfeld and that's no secret. I love him because not only is he a genius at what he does for his own line but he does not compromise the Chanel name or line. And Chanel (the woman) is like my icon...she's kinda my role model. So I'm really happy that he expands her collections rather than completely "revolutionized" the line (how many times have we seen designers take over a fashion label and completely change the aesthetic **cough**Paulo Melim Andersson and the Chloé fiasco **cough**).

I'm quite happy that several of Chanel's signature pieces are referenced in this collecion. Don't know what those are...follow me.

1. Tweeds. There's nothing quite like a Chanel tweed skirt suit.

Nothing.

And I'm happy Lagerfeld knows this.

He always updates the tweed skirt like you can never think of.

Lagerfeld said the theme was inspired by a grayish portrait by Marie Laurencin, who painted Coco Chanel in the twenties, but really, it was yet another of his long, allusive, sometimes mischievous excursions around the house set p
ieces. The fact that there's an untainted core to this label—the tweeds, bows, camellias, and ineffably pretty cocktailwear—means Lagerfeld can take full license to nod to all sides of the road (style.com)

2. Pearls

3. Camellias

It encompassed jumpsuits and Empire gowns, flamenco-cum-western ruffled skirts, black ciré swimwear, and, in the middle of it all, a kitsch skit on the Chanel carrier bag: little shopping bags in pink leather. In the end, though, it was the delicious eveningwear that carried the show to a lovely conclusion: long, narrow skirtsuits with cropped boleros, a pink vertically pleated dress, and, yes, even a gray-tinted cloudy georgette flowing dress that could have sat for Marie Laurencin.

Wondering what the other two signatures are...stars and Byzantine crosses
