Ahhh!! This post is wayyy overdue.
Two weeks ago (three?? I don't know, during NY Fashion Week), yours truly had the AMAZING opportunity to get behind the scenes at the show of her IDOL!
ok idol is a bit of a strong word...but its quite close.
I'm talkin' Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons
Backstage was CRAZY!!! First off, there was this narrow space considered the hair and makeup area so carrying your bag (which is oversized), camera, pad and pen, and UMBRELLA (cuz of course I'd be the one to get caught in the rain) all whilst trying not to knock down makeup artists, models, and PR people is NOT an easy feat.
The chaos that is backstage.

But I managed. And I'm happy I did.
I got to interview the AMAZING Odile Gilbert
(crappy picture because I managed to get her while she was blinking but remember...I was carrying half of NYC with me people)
Odile modeling the Linea Pro Flat Iron
The inspiration for the hair, makeup and nails was CHER! Which Cher are you asking (because that woman had a different look every darn decade)...this was straight up 1970s Cher baby! The look was very long, shiny straight hair. Some of the models sported hair parted down the middle while others got bangs. parted down the middle. Odile and her team were using the newest flat iron from Linea Pro- Linea Pro Titanium Flat Iron.
"This thing is amazing...you should try it!"- Odile
Odile, darling, I would try it but word had it backstage that this sucker costs $800...that's a college class right there.
Yeah you're seeing correctly...that baby is COVERED in Swarovski crystals. PHENOMENAL!!!!

Shoutout to Mizani!! This is what the girls use at my Dominican salon to get my hair done right!!!
Then I managed to get some chatty time with lead MAC makeup artist, James, who was a doll and I want him to do my makeup
...I'm just saying
James and I
The table o' makeup
Eyes
Whole lid: use a medium tone gold color
Inner Corner: Bright gold
And use a darker brown to sculpt the eye and give it dimensions.
Lashes: angled, spiky false lashes were used. Tip: put the mascara first, then the falsies and then mascara again. (they used black mascara on the models.
Cheeks
Peachy orange placed high on the cheekbones
Face: used warm shades on the models
Lips: Peachy lipgloss and lipstick
makeup artist, oh so focused...
James working his magicAfter that (as if my head wasn't swirling from all the makeup I just saw) I spoke to Roxanne from
CND. She was PHENOMENAL!! So funny, down to earth, and even let me try on the press ons from the show..haha
My crappy finger
The tips for the models
The polish? strawberry daffodil. The look? "long, baby pink and soft almond. natural, but baby phat natural." Now when you see these puppies on the mdels they DID NOT LOOK FAKE at all. Roxanne made a very valid point when she told me that nails these season are like accessories, especially in this economy where if you don't want to drop cash on clothes you can simply get your nails done and BAM! there's your outfit.
This light pink color is sophisticated, simple yet chic...anyone can wear it. Most of all it's EASY...no fussyness about it!
The press ons were pre adhesive but it took the nail artists about 4 hous to a day to color ALL of the nails for ALL of the models.
Never me...
The final look for Baby Phat:

This girl was a doll..lettin' me snap pictures of her throught the entire time. But then again...its kinda her job
And I couldn't help myself...BOYSSSSSS!!!
