Ahh the hecticness that is backstage!!! So today I made my way backstage to Lela Rose (for a New Yorker you'd think that I'd know my way around but...soo not the case haha).
Inside I spoke with makeup artist extraordinaire Tina Turnbow, the woman behind the look at Lela Rose. The look was "outdoorsy and adventurous woman" It was very fresh and springy. On the face she used Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation along with Perfecting Concealer. On the eyes, Stila's eyeshadow in Dune was used on the browbone long with Convertible Eye Color in Bronze. Stila's Bronzer in Sun #1 was used across the bridge of the nose and on the cheeks.
For the hair, I got to speak to the superwonderful Ted Gibson about the inspiration and overall look. The most important thing is that the hair and clothes work together (after all we ARE here for the clothes right??) The look was African inspired and after seeing pictures of beautiful African women (!!) and the hair in these pictures were these beautiful chignons, cornrows, and all sorts of braids and so he wanted to adopt it to modern life. On the hair he used Tame It Shine Lotion and Beautiful Hold Hairspray from his own haircare line.
The front of the hair was cornrowed to the side of the head (so basically braided going back to the side ) and that was pulled into a braided chignon in the back of the head. When the look was done, it was ruffled up a smidge to give it that undone look: very I-slept-with-my-hair-braided-last night-and-woke-up-to-late-to-do-it-over.
