So gearing up for Fall already, I'm trying to think (and budget) what makeup I'll be needing for the upcoming fall season. My Sephora catalog came in the mail and one of the trends mentioned was the dark vampy lip color.

I'm on the fence about dark lips. Worn too dark and you look like you're getting ready for some Halloween gala. I would certainly NOT go as dark as YSL. That on dark skin is just a no-no.And that's where my problem lies. I have dark skin and dark lips as well so anything too dark makes me seem goth. And my goth days are over (7th grade...went through a phase)
But I am not one to be limited. I went to Sephora to try and find something that would work wonders on me.
After seeing all of the ads, I had to check out the collection myself. Smashbox does not disappoint with their Wicked collection. I personally love Wicked Lovely Lip Gloss in Sultry. The color is not harsh on my lips at all!! It's actually quite sheer and I kind of had to layer it on (not alot but one swipe did not do it).
Givenchy's Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick in Black Plum and Flirting Brown both do a great job for camp lips but on me Black Plum is the better option, not as harsh as Flirting Brown.

In the end, all of these are too rich for my pockets so I did what any broke beauty addict would/should do...drugstore brands. When in doubt, CoverGirl! I have one lipstick from the TruShine Collection (in Chocolate Shine) and love how the color lasts so I decided to get a new one in Cherry Shine which turned out fab on me. It's not that as dark as some of the previous lippies mentioned but it's much darker than anything I'd normally buy.
baby steps..lol

I do suggest you line your lips with an anti-feathering lip pencil (I suggest Too Faced Borderline Lip Pencil). If your rockin' dark lips, your lips have to be on point! Nothing's uglier than peeling dark red lips. Hell, nothing's worse than dry cracked lips...period. So exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate...
"So now it's the million pounds of pigment question: Are dark lips a yes or a no? Would you wear this? And if so, how dramatic would you make it? And if not, why not?"

I'm lovin' the vampy look. To glam it up a bit you can add a little bronzer/blush on the cheeks to give you some color.
I'm scarred from dog lipstick because my grandma likes it and she always tried to make me up and I looked terrible.
dark* not dog...
