So this has nothing to do with fashion nor beauty, thus this is one of my random posts.
Today I went to work only to step out of the train station into sheer madness. I was royally shocked and wanted to stay for the festivities but I my shift started in ten minutes and I had a beef patty waiting to be eaten. Inside I asked my supervisor what the deal was and was informed that they were celebrating Bastille Day.
Now since I paid attention in school (history is one of my fave subjects...nerd I know) I know that this is equivalent to the US 4th of July. The official date is July 14th. This was the day that the French stormed the Bastille. For the peasant class, the Bastille stood as a symbol of the hypocrisy and corruption of the aristocratic government. Apparently Smith St. in Brooklyn is THE place to celebrate Bastille Day. There was a Bocce ball tournament, outdoor restaurants-the whole of Smith Street was shut down for this event- and drunk people hanging out from 2 till 9 (and that's when I was leaving work so who knows what time the street actually cleared).
So to any Frenchman (or woman) out there HAPPY BASTILLE DAY!

Great history lesson. I remember learning about this but I don't see it being celebrated much in Florida. Boooo.
Hope you're doing well, haven't talked to you in a while. :)
