Costume Institute Gala at the Met

It has arrived!!!

It is one of the biggest nights in the New York fashion scene (other than Fashion Week of course!). This is when designers, models, actors, actresses, musicians- EVERYBODY!- come out and play. Glamour is the name of the game, baby!

For those who know not of what I speak, I am talking about the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala. The theme this year is "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy"...fun! The exhibit opened yesterday but Monday night just about anybody who's anybody went to fête the occasion.

The man, the myth, the legend- Karl Lagerfeld looking quite like himself...

I don't know if I like this look on lil' ole' Mary Kate. This gold Diane von Furstenberg dress is just fab but looks a bit overwhelming on her small frame.

Thandie Newton...WOW! This dress is absolutely stunning!!! I love it...a little bit daring, a whole lotta leg, and just the right amount of sex appeal. GORGEOUS!

Wow...I know I've gotten on poor old Tilda for her lack or makeup but I actually liked her ability to go out sans makeup. She has great skin and can really pull it off. So, why, oh why, did she pull this look??? I don't like the gold makeup on her at all! The ever daring Tilda wears what no other woman would try pulling off but I like this lace Prada dress on her...the shoes not so much but...

Eva Longoria Parker...Marchesa...is there anything else I have to say? I love them both! It's a no brainer! Eva is workin' this dress and her makeup is wonderful with this dress...not over powering but definitely not girl next door-fresh faced-I want to look ok....never go wrong with the smokey eye!
Fergie in Calvin Klein. I dig the whole one shoulder look but I'm kind of iff on this one. I'm not too sure I like it. Maybe because it is Fergie and I was expecting something a little more va va voom, ya know? But I like the simplicity that is a Calvin Klein design.

Say hello! I'm not that much of a Gisele fan but this Versace number lloks great! She knows how to work whatever she is wearing (I guess that's the perk of being a model, huh).

Ivanka looks stunning in this J. Mendel dress (then again I am very biased and love any dress that is long and flowy). I simply adore Ivanka, she is one of those women that just oozes sexiness and confidence (while she has clothes on). I secretly want to be her. I like the headpiece..it's different..kind of a princess-y thing going on.

My favorite Victoria's Secret Angel (ok...second..Selita all the way!) Karolina Kurkova has got legs for days, is the sweetest and nicest (I was fortunate to have met her before) and is simply radiant in this Vera Wang concoction (the designer pictured above left with her). This Roman goddess inspired dress is divine but the silver cuffs just add that toughness to the ensemble!

My hero in an old school-esque Armani outfit. I love it! I love her! and I want her husband...

The queen, er, Anna Wintour (chair of this event) along with Bee Shaffer. Anna wears Chanel while her daughter wears Nina Ricci. I love (and want) Bee's dress...it is simply gorgeous and grandiose (go big or go home) but I'm not too sure I like Anna's outfit...she reminds me of some sort of alien- like she belongs in a Star Wars movie.

Plus, could you imagine...how do you explain this to your friends: "Oh I'm just going out to one of the biggest fashion event of the year with my mom"

hmm...sure makes me going to work look a bit of a drag, non?
Blake Lively looks stunning in this silk and tulle Ralph Lauren down. I love the gloves a bit of old-Hollywood flair...

Diane Kruger rockin' the mini....dress by Alberta Ferretti
And looking quite man-ish in the face is Donatella Versace (I love her anyway)

My pick for best dressed? Tied between Blake Lively and Eva Longoria Parker

So what do we think? Love it? Hate it?

Knikki, girl, you not the only one. Nobody went all out this year, everyone went all glam and red carpet (not that I mind but it was quite annoying). the only one who went superhero like was Christina Ricci who was very Wonder Woman-ish in her gown...

WendyB: I just want Lagerfeld period. I just want him to hang out with me in my room and occaisonally make an outfit or two LOL
