NYFW Wrap Up I

Marc Jacobs

There's definitely an 40s inspired theme going on in this collection. I was kind of surprised because I didn't see anything that really grabbed my attention. Jacobs himself was said to be uninspired this season ("I really wasn't very inspired this season. I just live my life.") But for someone who was "uninspired" this looks ok. I love the shape of the clothes- the fact that they aren't skin tight. They have an almost glamourous feeling to them. Its as if Jacobs watched old movies and then started his collection. He offered a few more words: "Calm. Glamour. Casual. Beautiful women." This pretty much sums up this collection.

Zac Posen

Again, I'm seeing the whole 40s era going on. Red lips, slicked hair, and clothes that seem too glamourous ffor everyday wear. "Posen cut all of the sugar and spice with great tailoring, some of it in a soft-quilted cloque that his program notes dubbed 'bubble wrap'" noted style.com's Nicole Phelps. All of the clothes in his collection looked like it were made for dolls. I do love the birght colors (you know me and brights). The yellow tights paired with the black outfit looks less bumble bee and more cute and everyday. "On the harder side, a Prince of Wales schoolboy suit looked signature—it was curvy and fit like a glove—but it didn't have quite the sex appeal of a plunging Le Smoking jumpsuit".

Custo Barcelona:

I don't really kow what to think of this show. I do love the use of color and the whol rock vibe goin on. The whole ethnic print lok is really cool too, but I don't see anyone really wearing these looks. Maybe because most of the designers this season have been making realistic wearable clothing or maybe just plainly because I know I would never be able to wear such outfits- but I'm not loving this collection. Which is really sad as I do love Custo and he normally lashes out great collections. Maybe its just me. I can see this in magazines for photoshoots, though.
Derek Lam:

"Controlled exuberance"- these were the words going around for the Derek Lam show. Now I'm a fan of Lam (even if I can't afford his clothing). He always has great tailored feminine pieces. This season was no different. He was said to have been inspired by Isak Dinesen(famed writer of Seven Gothic Tales and Out of Africa) and her lifelong struggle to resolve the contradictions between her family's bourgeois values and her own, more adventurous, spirit Phelps). This is definitely my fave out of all of these collections because I could see myself wearing such clothes to say, an interview, sophisticated lunch maybe. I love love love love Derek Lam!

Seriously, if anyone walked into the gym with the first outfit from Marc Jacobs they would be laughed out. His clothes are atrocious.
